What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Samarkand Railway Station is praised for its cleanliness, modern amenities, and helpful staff, offering a pleasant transit experience. However, the lack of lifts and escalators is a significant drawback for travelers with heavy luggage, making platform changes challenging. The station's architecture also receives positive mentions.
"Samarkand Railway Station, like many in the region, is referred to as a “Vokzal”—a term commonly used across Russia and former Soviet countries. The station is clean, well-maintained, and reflects the historical charm of the Soviet-era infrastructure.
It offers excellent connectivity to major cities like Tashkent, Bukhara, and Khiva, particularly through the high-speed Afrosiyob bullet train. Staff at the station were very helpful and polite, making the travel experience smooth.
However, a key drawback is the absence of lifts and escalators, which makes it difficult to change platforms, especially when carrying heavy baggage.
Samarkand is a very safe city, and the trains are modern, punctual, and comfortable. If you’re planning to travel by Afrosiyob, it’s recommended to book your tickets in advance, as they sell out quickly. Besides Afrosiyob, several other train options are also available for various destinations."

"We bought train tickets to travel from Samarkent to Tashkent on 16 Septmber 2025.
The Samarkand Train Station is modern .Its interior has a Russian Infuence .It is clean and bright, with decent coffee shops and convenience stores.
There is a digital screen in the Lobby displaying real-time information about train departures.
Our Train is scheduled at to depart from Platform 3 which is completely on the other side. To get to Platform 3, we had to go under platform 1 and 2.
There are no escalators or lifts, no help with those who have luggages.
From my observations , there no porters to help too ,instead we had to roll our suitcases etc down the stairs and drag them up the stairs to be able to get to the Platform 3. Its not user friendly !!
The only good thing the train leave on time otherwise it was a very stressful experience !!!"

"I visited Samarkand on a day trip from Tashkent by train and while Samarkand’s train station may not be huge, but it’s clean and has everything you need for a comfortable wait. There are plenty of seats, a decent variety of cafes to grab a bite or a coffee, and a few souvenir shops if you’re looking for last-minute gifts. What really stood out to me was the beautiful stained glass design inside the building. A lovely send-off (or welcome) to such a historic city."
