Reviews Summary

Haulover Bay South is highly praised for its incredible snorkeling and diving opportunities, featuring vibrant, healthy coral and abundant marine life. While the beach itself is rocky and requires water shoes, the underwater experience is considered exceptional and well worth the effort to reach this quiet, off-the-beaten-path location. Reddit

"Great snorkeling. Health plant and coral life. Please keep it this way. Only stand on sand!!!"

Joseph Bass

"This “beach” is great for snorkeling and off shore diving. The beach is extremely rocky, not just pebbles. There is no area of the beach where you can enter without walking on sand covered rocks. We’ve gone to South Haulover Bay twice now. The sea life is amazing and the coral is beautiful. It’s one of the only places where the coral doesn’t seem to be damaged from the hurricane. To the very left and right sides of the bay are amazing places to snorkel and also scuba dive. We went diving there towards the edge of the bay and reached about 45ft. The water is as calm as a lake. No facilities, limited parking, but no hiking to get to the beach. The photos were taken in November close to sunset."

Bronwyn Rawlings

"Rocky beach with a little bit of sand. Very quiet & off the beaten path. Great for snorkeling songs sea grass beds & large coral reef. Saw lots of fish, a few green sea turtles & a spotted eagle ray."

Remember that this is a natural habitat, and respecting its delicate balance is paramount to ensuring it remains a pristine destination for years to come. Reddit

Navigating the Rocky Terrain

The most critical piece of advice for visiting Haulover Bay South is the absolute necessity of water shoes. The beach is not a soft, sandy expanse; instead, it's characterized by rocks and coral, with larger formations extending into the water. Attempting to walk on this terrain barefoot is not only uncomfortable but can also be dangerous due to sharp edges. Reddit

Travelers consistently emphasize that water shoes are a must-have. They protect your feet, making it possible to navigate the beach and enter the water without pain or injury. This is particularly important for accessing the prime snorkeling spots located at the far left and right sides of the bay. The rocky entry is a small price to pay for the incredible underwater rewards, but proper footwear makes all the difference. Reddit

Beyond footwear, visitors should be prepared for a somewhat challenging drive. The road leading to Haulover Bay South is narrow, winding, and includes hills. While it's manageable, going slowly and staying to the left is crucial for a safe journey. Parking is also limited, typically along the roadside, so arriving earlier in the day can be beneficial.
