While some note its limited size and potential for ongoing construction, others appreciate the bilingual information and unique setting within a former prison. It's best visited with managed expectations for a quick, informative stop. Reddit+3

"It’s a nice place to learn about Uruguay animals and history. Though the museum is very small"

himani dhawan

"To set expectations. This is a very small museum. There are two rooms and a hallway and that covers the entire museum. We didn’t have any expectations so we were not disappointed as some of the other reviews said, we had no wait and were the only people visiting at the time.

There’s an expansion happening to the museum and about 80% of the building is under construction.

Recommendation would be to go only if there’s no wait and know there’s a very limited number of items on display.

Entry Fee: $0"

JW Hill

"Free, well presented natural history of Uruguay in Spanish and English. Loves the egg collection. How did the Doesicurus die off? That animal was impressive. Museum is in the lobby /entrance to a former prison. Moving history of The Disappeared from 1960s/70s in included on the left. Don't miss the modern art (political) museum around to the left if you are facing the building from the front, and walking around the jail complex to the back of the building. We almost missed it."
