While at Huffman Prairie Flying Field searching for birds to photograph, I was surprised yesterday's adventures included being the subject of great interest for a Thirteen-lined ground squirrel. I had been sitting in my car thinking about where I was going to travel to next as the light was getting too harsh for good bird photos. I saw some movement near the fence line and watched and waited and...

Going to Huffman Prairie Flying field in Dayton, Ohio is at a minimum an annual tradition for me and I love capturing the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in flight there on the native plants, particularly when the plant is the rare salmon/pink color of Royal Catchfly. Now's the time to go if you'd like to capture some images of them there! I've talked about this place during all of my classes on Begi...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find Huffman Prairie to be a historically significant and peaceful site, offering free admission and a chance to connect with early aviation history. While the Interpretive Center's exhibits are engaging, occasional closures and occasional maintenance issues with interactive displays are noted drawbacks. The natural setting and wildlife sightings are often highlighted as pleasant surprises. Reddit

"I came here on a bad week to the Visitor Center (VC). It was closed due to an US Air Force exercise on those days it would have been open. It also meant that I couldn’t get my Passport Stamp. I literally had the park to myself since the VC was closed. It was easy to get to as there was only one entrance since the Air Force Base gate was closed. When I arrived, there were plenty of parking spaces as it had more parking around the corner.

The reason for the 3 star was that it was ‘OK’ with the remainder of the property. If I can get back here when it is open, I will change this grade of course."

"Small visit to the memorial site and small exhibit here. Not crowded, free to enter.✨
The lookout is very nice, occasional deer nearby as well.
Taking the time to drop by really kinda sets you back in time at the memorial site, especially after watching some of the historical videos at this center.
I just wish the simulator and one of the videos was working to get some more hands on and info.🙌
A nice place to chill and relax if you don't want to be in a crowded place. Outdoor seating is available near the memorial as well.❤️"

"Nice secondary site for Dayton Aviation. Smaller museum, but lots of interesting stuff. Rangers were friendly and kind. Cool monument outside."
