The Williamsburg Botanical Garden had the great idea of dividing up many of their beds into small plots of various shapes, sizes, and soil conditions to demonstrate how the average homeowner can add native plants to their landscape. I love this approach, as it allows people to see plantings in real life, not just in a book or on the internet. I knew when I was close to the indigenous plants gard...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Williamsburg Botanical Garden for its well-maintained native plant displays and inspirational landscaping ideas, despite its small size. The adjacent Freedom Park Arboretum offers added historical interest with its trails and recreated settlement. While some find it small, many appreciate the thoughtful use of space and the peaceful atmosphere, making it a worthwhile stop for nature lovers and gardeners.

"i love Botanical Gardens, and i will visit every one i can. The Williamsburg Garden surprised me with its small size - only 2 acres - but they did a great job with the space they have. They feature an astonishing number of collections, giving a capsule view of different biomes. There's a play garden for little ones. They have their own compost bins and other work areas. i found quite a bit of inspiration there. (Note: Please park in the designated area. Yes, you have to walk a short distance to get back to the Garden, it's ok.)

The Freedom Park Arboretum is a combination of walking trails, historical sites and arboretum. There is a visitors' centre with some exhibits and staffers to answer questions as well as the restrooms. We took the trails to see the 18th century cemetery which is basically a fenced in area, really not much to see. The artifacts are in the Centre. The Free Black Settlement from the early 1800's had recreations of 3 cabins which were furnished. Informational plaques gave historical details."
