What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the gorgeous, expansive views of the river valley, especially beautiful during autumn. The overlook is easily accessible from parking and offers unique viewer telescopes. However, some note that parking can be scarce and caution is advised for children due to the height.
"The view of the river valley is nice but you can just barely see the river itself. There is plenty of parking nearby and it is a short walk to the overlook."
Dave Bowmaster
"Very accessible from the nearby parking lot, also accessible through the blue, yellow, and white trails. Great view at the end of a long hike!"
Rosie Ruzicka
"Gorgeous views of the river and areas all around it. You can see all the way to the fort and the clock tower. The trees are so beautiful in the fall (today) and the sky was a perfect blue.
If you go with children... Be a little cautious with them. The Outlook is VERY HIGH UP. The deck itself is pretty well built, but there's some area to the right of the walkway that's a little bit sketchy.
They have some cool viewer telescope things that you can look through to see across the river. Amazing.
The parking is also a little scarce, and DONT PARK ON THE GRASS!!! There is additional parking along the side of the road."

Exploring the Trails to the Overlook
For those seeking a more intimate experience with the river, a short excursion down the West Ridge Trail, about half a mile from the main overlook, is recommended. This path offers less crowded access and beautiful views of the river itself, complementing the broader valley vistas from the main overlook. Planning your hike around the overlook can turn a simple visit into a more comprehensive outdoor adventure.
When planning your hike, consider the time of year. Spring and summer offer lush greenery, while fall provides a spectacular display of autumn colors. Always check the park's trail conditions and be prepared with appropriate footwear and water, especially for longer hikes.
Safety and Accessibility Considerations
Accessibility from the parking lot to the overlook is generally good, described as a 'short walk.' This makes it relatively easy to access for many visitors. However, the advice to be cautious with children highlights that while the path may be short, the drop-offs are substantial.
For those concerned about parking, it's important to note that it can be scarce. Visitors are strongly advised to use designated parking areas and refrain from parking on the grass. Additional parking is available along the side of the road, which might require a slightly longer walk to the overlook.
