What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Oak Island Park is highly praised as a versatile recreation area with something for everyone, from a great playground and skate park to extensive walking trails and picnic spots. Visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the connected trail system. Some minor drawbacks include the distance of restrooms from the playground and potential pollen levels.
"This is one of the best park areas in Wausau! Whatever you're looking for, they probably have it here.
Picnicking, walking, baseball, tennis/pickleball, bird watching, fishing, skateboarding, relaxing. A great place to read by the water. A big playground area.
A day spent here is not a day wasted.
The trail here is connected to several parks, each with their own unique features, and all worth exploring. Anybody familiar with Pfiffner Park area in Stevens Point, this is very similar.
We spent about six hours going up the trail and back, visiting all the parks along the way (and a bit of time at the library). No ticks, no mosquitoe bites. Pesky insects were almost non-existent. The only real downside was the extremely high pollen levels. It's never been anywhere near that bad any other time I've been here. We didn't let that deter us from having a great day, though.
Well worth visiting, I highly recommend it."

"Nice park along the river-has a children's play area, skate boarding area, picnic areas, and walking path. There's also an island with a bridge crossing to it "Isle of Ferns" - it has a nice walking path around. You could probably take a mountain bike around it but I would not take a street bike on it. We were there earlier this week and there were several puddles you had to walk around."

"Plenty of parking. Have to walk by tennis courts for the restrooms the kind of dirty. The playground itself is really nice had a lot of different things for the kids to play on. Really nice being right next to the river."
