Reviews Summary

Visitors find Scull Shoals Historic Site to be a uniquely atmospheric and remote place, offering a glimpse into Georgia's past with its scattered ruins and overgrown trails. While the challenging navigation and lack of clear labeling are noted drawbacks, the serene environment and the thrill of discovery, especially the elusive manager's house, make it a rewarding experience for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Reddit+1

"We definitely enjoyed exploring this place. It was really cool to see the old ruins and the whole setting was remote and felt like we were stepping into another world. We explored the surrounding woods and walked down to the river looking for the ruins and whatever else we might find. The map was not to scale and made it difficult to be sure where we were going and what we were seeing. The map has numbers to the ruins but the actual remains are not labeled in any way. The trails were very difficult to walk as most are overgrown and are really just ghosts of trails which I don’t mind at all. Added to the magic of the place. The managers house was so difficult to find we almost gave up - but so worth seeing once we found it! Added bonus we didn’t realize there would be an old well but we found one by the mgr house.
We ended up exploring late into the evening and left as the sun was setting. As soon as the sun dropped the whole area filled with fog and it felt so spooky and amazing!! We want to go back and check out the botanical trail and walk back through more of the forest!"

"This was a really cool place to find! It was definitely an adventure trying to get there. It is in the middle of nowhere down a dirt road. Now be careful cause there are some deep ruts on the road. Cell service is spotty out there so be prepared for that. It was an awesome to see an old part of Georgia History. Stop and read the information about it. Take a picnic lunch with you. Take a book and a blanket. There is not much out there at all. But it is quiet and serene. My husband and I spent about a half hour out there just taking in the nature and seeing the ruins."

"Visited on a whim. It was a little... side quest... I guess you could call it.

It was a bit cool and misty out, so the place was empty. Loads of parking. Picnic tables available.

It's just really beautiful and peaceful there. The only issue I had was the map orientation. I'm navigationally challenged and was struggling to make the map make sense so that I knew what was where. It would be nice if each ruin had a placard stating what it was."
