Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the Municipal Fish Market for its incredibly fresh seafood, particularly the oysters and reasonable prices. It's seen as a historic and authentic spot, offering a taste of local D.C. life. However, some find the market can be hot and less appealing during off-peak hours or on certain days, with occasional concerns about flies and limited selection.

"I wanted to love this place…. I had wonderful memories of visiting years ago and was hoping for a similar experience. We went in July 28th, 2025. It was hot and empty at about 4pm. Empty was a good thing, I remember it being crowded. I realize time of day, and being a Monday come into play….but flies on everything, ice melting and selection was limited . Moral of this story is go early, hopefully cooler, and maybe do your homework, Monday might not be the best day🤣"

"I used to buy fish from this area back in the 70s. At that time, the fishermen brought the fish in boats, and now the area looked much cleaner and organized. There are plenty of choices to buy cooked and fresh fish. Like everything in life, prices have gone up. The fish looked clean and fresh."

There’s a wide variety of vendors selling fresh fish, crabs, oysters, shrimp, and more. Even though it’s an open air market, the place is surprisingly clean and well maintained.
