What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Liberty Pole Spirits for its exceptional tours, knowledgeable and passionate guides, and the high quality of its craft spirits, particularly the Monongahela Rye. The cozy tavern and unique offerings like peated bourbon also receive high marks, making it a memorable experience for whiskey enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Some visitors wished for more extensive food options or longer tours, but overall, the experience is highly recommended.
"As someone who loves history, learning about new stuff, and drinking, the Liberty Pole tour is one of the best I have been on (and I have done a lot). Jeff is fabulous and his passion for his craft is infectious. Not only do you learn about the significance of whiskey in US history and the Western PA region, but you also learn about the distillation process. At the end we had a generous tasting, eight samples, a taste of their old fashion, plus a free glass. They have a cozy tavern where you can get amazing seasonal cocktails and small bites, along with special meals if you are there during specific times (check their website for availability). Can’t make the tour? The bottle shop has tastings available and are very helpful."

"The tour of Liberty Pole Spirits was fantastic in every way! I've taken several distillery tours and this was by far the best.
With a delightful cocktail in hand, master distiller Jeff led a fabulous and thorough tour. He brought it all together - the history, the ingredients and their sourcing (more later) and the way whiskey is made at Liberty Pole which is unique in several key ways.
The tour begins at the bar choosing a delicious seasonal cocktail then follows the story of rye whiskey through history, and follows the grain through milling, mashing, distilling, aging, blending and bottling.
At every step of the tour I notes the unique choices made by these distillers: superior and uncommon grains, slow fermentation, pot distillers, and a rookery that is designed and built to produce uniquely fine whiskey.
And, then the glorious tasting. You'll note that I've mentioned how unique Liberty Pole is in so many ways. They make whiskey like no other. Flavor unparalleled! Rye & Bourbon, peated or spiced (seasonally), Corn Whiskey, a yummy bourbon cream, and even a delicious convenient TSA-approved Old Fashioned.
Lastly, we exit through the gift shop where we all stock up on arguably the best whiskey made. My favorite is the Monongahela Rye with the rest also prize-worthy.
P.S. They also offer delightful bites, a cozy bar and outside seating."

"Was in visiting Pittsburgh from out of town and love whiskey so decided to drop in. Keith helped me out with tasting all the spirits and I ended up spending nearly 2 hours chatting about whiskey with him while I went through the line up. Super friendly and knowledgeable about their whiskey and whiskey in general. Ended up leaving with a few bottle and some swag, but not before grabbing a cocktail and some pork belly, which were all delicious. It was cool to go up top and overlook the production side as well. I had hoped to be able to take a tour, especially the barrel house one, but sadly I just wasn't going to be around long enough. If I'm ever back in Pittsburgh I will definitely be back, hopefully for the tour, but either way to grab a few more bottles!"
