It's a place for reflection on the intersection of cultures and the cost of expansion.

"This was an easy hike, the trail is paved and goes up both sides of the monument. The view is beautiful as well. This site is also home to "The Great Grave" which is a small cemetery where Marcus and Narcissa Whitman, and eleven others are laid to rest as a result of the Cayuse warriors attack on November 29, 1847. Further down the trail contains "Pioneer Burial Ground" where settlers were laid to rest and foundations of where various buildings and homes were. Photos taken Monday, February 7th, 2022."

"It’s a nice little park. Not much In the way of things left to see but great rangers and a viewpoint. About 1.5 miles of trails. I’d recommend doing the loop and the part up to the monument for sure. Park movie is 20 mins long and informative."

Justin Luthey

"I hope that if you are local you should at least visit regularly to support our communities history. That settlement helped build population of settlers in the area. Yes it was the end the way of life for the Indians that inhabited the area. Manifest destiny at the cost of the indigenous people."
