Reviews Summary
Mermaid Caves Nanakuli is a breathtaking, unique spot on Oahu, praised for its magical light and adjacent tide pools. Visitors rave about the unforgettable views and the chance to explore marine life. However, the beauty comes with significant safety warnings; strong, unpredictable waves and tides necessitate extreme caution, especially during afternoon visits. It's a hidden gem best enjoyed with preparation and respect for the ocean's power.
"Mermaid’s Cave is one of the most unique and unforgettable spots on Oahu. It’s best to visit early in the morning, because as the day goes on, the waves get stronger and can easily fill the cave, making it dangerous to go inside. The place is truly amazing — magical light, sea breeze, and a view that stays with you forever. But be very careful, as the tide can rise quickly. Nearby, there’s a beautiful park with a sandy beach, public restrooms, and plenty of free street parking. If there’s no sign saying “No Parking,” you can park there safely. I was surprised to see a private house located literally just a few feet away from the cave — it adds to the charm of this hidden gem."

"I absolutely loved this place. It is a totally underrated spot in western O'ahu. The cave has openings from the top (rocks) and from the water. You want to swim there, you have to be very careful with the wave as they can crush you to the rocks and injure you very easily. It is easier to get there from the opening from the rocks. It is a bit hard to find it but I uploaded a few pictures to help. The cave itself is amazing. It is beautiful and very clean. It is also much cooler than the beach itself so if it is hot out there, this is even a better place. You have to be careful with the cave when you get there since it can be overwhelming when the tide is up. The best time to go there is probably from 9am to 2pm during the day when the qater level is still low. I would definitely recommend taking the time to visit this cave and have a camera and your swimsuit to swim in the water a bit."

"Mermaid Cave also has tide pools right beside it, so keep going past it about 100 yards and enjoy the tide pools. We met with a super friendly native local named Jay. He took time to show us how and where to jump in at the cave entrance. How to navigate the currents in the cave, where to avoid. He taught us history of the place and the swim was amazing. The tide pools after was so relaxing and beautiful."
