What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Heritage Square is lauded for its beautifully preserved Victorian architecture and historical significance, offering a charming glimpse into Phoenix's past. Visitors enjoy the Rosson House Museum and the unique atmosphere, especially during special events like holiday markets and outdoor cinemas. While the attraction itself is generally well-regarded, some reviews mention issues related to property management and maintenance for residential aspects, which are separate from the public museum experience.
"The office staff is lazy, incompetent, and will not take care of the tenants. They don't return calls, or emails regarding billing issues or anything in the apartment.
Sent in a maintenance request for AC unit running all day and never going below 80 when it is set at 75. Electric bill in May, when it isn't even that hot yet, was $284 so I got black out curtains and turned the air up past 80 and the next bill in June was $389. All they did was change the air filter and suggest I set the thermostat higher, above 80 so it doesn't run all day. Checked with my upstairs neighbors all around about their electric bills, they don't pay more than $150 a month in the summer and they all have newer units. One tenant is an AC repair man that also had problems with his AC and he had to buy a stand alone ac unit to help keep his apartment cool and his electric bill down. He's had it for over a year.
They charge fees for online payments, so I pay rent with a money order every month. I came in on time, on a Saturday, the money order has time and date stamped on it, yet they still charged me 10% late fee because they weren't there that Saturday, and it was NOT a holiday. Monday was too late and not a holiday, but charged the fee because, yes, it was late, but they were too lazy to be there on a Saturday. They need a drop box for rent. I sent an email regarding this fee that Saturday and even called, but have not heard back, the fee is still on my account.
The bathrooms have mold in the air vents and the crevices of the fiberglass shower.
Carpets were not cleaned after last tenant, so there are spots I will more than likely have to pay for in the carpet. Light weight pictures need anchors to hang on the walls. Curtain rods don't stay in the walls either.
Appliances are on their last leg."

"My friend moved there and it reeked of cigarettes. Mgmt did nothing. Now all of his belongings smell like that"

"Justin, thank you for a Saturday nite 9:00 pm emergency. The maintenance staff are ones to be proud of. He has been here before and is very professional and polite and gets here quickly. The apts , neighbors and ladies in the office make living here feel more like a home. Yes they’re old & outdated but so am I and I fit right in. Great area and the big boss needs to buy their staff lunch for managing , fixing & being decent human beings as we are running short on such morals."

The Charm of Victorian Architecture
Beyond the Rosson House, the square features other historic buildings, each with its own unique story and architectural style. These structures collectively paint a vivid picture of late 19th and early 20th-century life in Phoenix. Walking through Heritage Square feels like stepping back in time, offering a stark contrast to the modern cityscape surrounding it. It's a place where history is not just read about, but experienced firsthand.
Many visitors are captivated by the sheer beauty and historical significance of these homes. The attention to detail in their restoration is often praised, making it a popular spot for photography and historical exploration. The contrast between the old-world charm of the houses and the modern city skyline provides a unique visual narrative.
Events and Experiences at Heritage Square
One of the most popular event types is seasonal markets, such as Christmas markets and Halloween-themed gatherings. These markets offer a festive atmosphere, local crafts, and seasonal treats. For instance, the mention of 'STEAM CORN' at a market suggests unique local offerings. Outdoor cinema events, like those hosted by Street Food Cinema, transform the grounds into an open-air theater, allowing attendees to enjoy films surrounded by historic architecture. The square also hosts immersive experiences, such as 'Victorian Horror Stories in the Dark,' which capitalize on the potentially spooky ambiance of the old houses.
Attending an event at Heritage Square provides a different perspective on the location. It allows visitors to engage with the space in a dynamic way, often with live entertainment, food vendors, and a lively crowd. Planning a visit around one of these events can significantly enhance the overall experience, offering a blend of history, culture, and entertainment.
Community and Visitor Perspectives
However, some reviews highlight issues that are common to older properties or managed venues. Negative feedback has pointed to potential problems with office staff responsiveness, maintenance issues (like AC or plumbing), and the condition of some apartments if people are living on-site (though this seems less relevant to the public attraction aspect). These comments often relate to the residential aspects of properties associated with the name, rather than the museum experience itself. [^Review]
On the positive side, the maintenance staff and groundskeepers have received specific praise for their professionalism and dedication, contributing to a pleasant environment. The overall sentiment from visitors to the attraction itself is that it's a charming and educational place, especially when attending one of its well-organized events. The community aspect is strong, with events fostering a sense of local engagement.
