What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Voorhees Mall is a mixed bag, with many visitors appreciating its quiet, nostalgic atmosphere and the continued presence of Boscov's. However, the significant number of closed stores leads others to describe it as a 'dead mall.'
"Several nice restaurant options. Boscov’s is still here, thank God. The only drawback is the frequency with which Child Help shows up there. It seems to be at least monthly. We already donate to Salvation Army, local food pantries, and elsewhere without being hit up quite frequently by Child Help. You can’t escape them—they are at every Boscov’s entrance 🙁"

"Dead Mall. Nothing appears to be open."

The Evolution of Voorhees Mall
However, like many malls across the country, Echelon Mall faced declining foot traffic and store closures. The departure of anchor stores, such as Macy's, marked significant shifts in its operational status. Today, while some businesses like Boscov's persist, much of the mall exists in a state of quietude, offering a unique glimpse into its past.
This transformation has given Voorhees Mall a distinct identity as a 'dead mall,' attracting visitors interested in its liminal spaces and nostalgic atmosphere. It's a place where the echoes of its bustling past can still be felt, making it a compelling destination for those seeking a different kind of mall experience.
Photography Opportunities
Key photographic subjects include the food court with its distinctive faux palm trees, the frozen-in-time directory boards showcasing the mall at its peak, and the unique interior design that hints at its former glory. The neon accents in some areas also add a retro flair, reminiscent of the 80s and 90s. Visitors often find the solitude perfect for unhurried exploration and composition.
When visiting for photography, consider visiting during weekday mornings when the mall is at its quietest, allowing for unobstructed shots and a more immersive experience. Remember to be respectful of any operating businesses and their patrons while exploring.
