What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the unique experience of striking the ringing rocks and exploring the boulder field. The park is praised for its natural beauty and the fun, interactive geological phenomenon. However, some note that the waterfall's flow is inconsistent and can be dry, and proper footwear is essential for navigating the terrain.
"C'mon it's a cool place. Bring a hammer and have some fun. Maneuvering on the boulders can be tricky, so wear good sneakers or hiking boots. The loop trail is rocky and short. I would suggest making your way down to the creek bed and then work your way to the falls...which may not exist certain times of the year. You would then need to climb a few rocks to get back up to the trail. The creek bed at the top of the falls is interesting to see. It's slippery so be careful. We hiked up from the lot on 32 to gain some incline."

"My whole life of living in PA and I finally got to ringing rocks. Such a cool place to just relax and enjoy nature and with some really cool sounds. If you don't remember to bring a hammer, there was a box of them you could borrow by the map. Mind you, Please be careful when climbing over the bigger rocks. I almost lost my shoe."

"Beautiful park to explore. Kids have a great time hitting the large rocks to hear them ring. There is a waterfall near the rocks however it has been dry the past few times we visited over the course of a few years."

The Science Behind the Sound
When you strike these boulders with a hammer or another rock, the vibrations travel through the stone, creating a clear, resonant sound. Not all rocks in the field ring, and those that do can produce different pitches and tones, making the experience of exploring the boulder field a musical adventure.
This natural wonder has captivated visitors for years, offering a hands-on, auditory experience that sets Ringing Rocks apart from typical park visits. It’s a place where geology meets music in a truly extraordinary way.
Navigating the Trails and Terrain
The boulder field itself is an 8-acre area where visitors can climb and explore among the large rocks. While fun, this terrain can be tricky and requires good balance and sturdy footwear. Many visitors recommend wearing hiking boots or good sneakers to navigate the uneven surfaces safely.
Accessing the waterfall involves a short hike, often down to the creek bed. Be aware that the creek bed can be slippery, especially after rain. Some visitors have also noted that the road leading directly to the park can be eroded and rutted, potentially requiring a short walk from a mile out if your vehicle has low clearance.
The Seasonal Waterfall
During wetter periods, the waterfall can be a beautiful and impressive sight, offering a refreshing natural spectacle. Visitors have described feeling the cold water wash over them when going under it. Conversely, during drier spells, especially in summer, the waterfall may be reduced to a mere trickle or even be completely dry.
If the waterfall is a primary reason for your visit, it's advisable to check recent visitor photos or local conditions beforehand. Despite its variability, the area around the waterfall and creek bed still offers a pleasant natural setting to explore.
