Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Snake River Canyon for its breathtaking natural beauty and dramatic vistas, particularly the views from the Canyon Rim Trail and the power of Shoshone Falls. The thrill of watching BASE jumpers from Perrine Bridge is a unique highlight. Some find certain trails challenging or muddy, and advise caution near the canyon edges.

"I love this trail. A few small hils, but nothing strenuous. Beautiful views, smooth path, benches along the way to sit on the canyon edge, great for sunsets. Don't think I've ever had a bad experience on the trail. There are a few lookouts, including one over the waterfall at Centennial."

Nathan Phelps

"Nice path with painted rocks decorating the side. Very hot on a sunny day."

Amy Bourgea

"I had a quick jog from the bridge to the pillar Falls Trail, and down into the canyon. Did a little bit of running through the weeds, the trees, jumping up and down rocks, and some scrambling. My little beagle hung out in the car on dog mode because he was far too tired from our week and a half road trip for another activity. Quite the steep downhill and I’m not sure whether it was worse going down or coming up. Also, it was quite swampy and muddy, making it even funner."

The Thrill of BASE Jumping at Perrine Bridge

The Perrine Bridge is one of the few places in the United States where BASE jumping is permitted year-round without requiring a permit. This has made it a world-renowned destination for thrill-seekers. Spectators often gather to watch the daring jumps, adding an electrifying element to the canyon's already dramatic scenery. Instagram+1

BASE jumping involves leaping from fixed objects – Buildings, Antennas, Spans (bridges), and Earth (cliffs). The Perrine Bridge, spanning the Snake River Canyon, provides a perfect launch point for these jumps, with parachutes deployed as jumpers descend towards the canyon floor. It's a spectacle that draws both participants and onlookers alike. Instagram

While watching BASE jumpers is a major draw, it's crucial to maintain a safe distance and be aware of your surroundings. The activity is inherently risky, and safety protocols are paramount for the jumpers. For visitors, it's a unique opportunity to witness extreme sports in a breathtaking natural setting. Instagram

Exploring Shoshone Falls: The 'Niagara of the West'

Shoshone Falls is a magnificent waterfall on the Snake River, often referred to as the 'Niagara of the West' due to its impressive scale and beauty. The falls are most spectacular in the spring when snowmelt significantly increases the river's flow, creating a thunderous cascade. TikTok

Visitors can view Shoshone Falls from several overlooks along the Canyon Rim Trail. The park area surrounding the falls offers convenient parking and well-maintained paths, making it accessible for most visitors. The sheer power and volume of water are awe-inspiring, and on sunny days, rainbows often form in the mist. TikTokReddit

While the spring offers the most dramatic display, Shoshone Falls is a beautiful sight year-round. Even when the flow is reduced, the unique rock formations and the canyon's grandeur remain captivating. It's a must-see natural wonder for anyone visiting Twin Falls. TikTok

Water Adventures: Kayaking and Paddleboarding

For a different perspective of the Snake River Canyon, consider exploring it by water. Kayaking and paddleboarding are popular activities, especially for reaching areas like Pillar Falls, which are inaccessible by land. Centennial Waterfront Park is a common put-in point for these excursions. Instagram+1

When planning a water adventure, it's important to be prepared. Renting equipment is available, and some outfitters offer guided tours that can enhance the experience by providing historical context and pointing out key landmarks. Ensure your watercraft has been properly cleaned to prevent the spread of invasive species. Instagram+1

Navigating the river requires awareness of currents and potential hazards. Always check weather conditions before heading out. The experience of paddling through the canyon, with its towering walls and the sound of the river, offers a unique and memorable way to connect with nature. Instagram+1
