What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Old Tavern Museum tours highly informative and engaging, offering a fascinating glimpse into 18th and 19th-century life. However, there's a discrepancy between advertised free admission and recent reports of a $5 per person fee per location, which has surprised some guests. The limited operating days also require careful planning.
"Our tour was terrific, but the tours aren't free any longer. Even though the official website still says they are and the sign on the door even said free admission. So, we were very surprised to be asked to pay $5 per person per location for the three associated tours (this tavern, the Battle-Friedman House and the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion). We weren't the only ones asked to pay, so perhaps this is the new fee.
The tour was very informative and interesting, but when you expect to get in free and suddenly have to pay, that diminishes the experience. It isn't an outrageous price and in fact, the information is probably worth it, but when everything says free and it isn't, someone should be updating their information."

"I had the opportunity to visit during the holidays and learned a tremendous amount about Tuscaloosa and this home/tavern! I highly recommend you take advantage of the free tours!"
Victoria O'Tool
"Better to show up 100% of the time 2 days a week than to show up 40% of the time 5 days a week....respect visitors time."
