What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Donner Memorial State Park for its beautiful lake, well-maintained grounds, and friendly rangers. The museum offers a compelling historical experience, though some find it less toddler-friendly. While parking has a fee, many find the park's natural beauty and historical significance well worth the visit.
"Fantastic visitor's center near Donner pass, visit the gift shop and the museum inside the visitor's center. They have a 26 minute movie that was quite excellent detailing the events of the Donner party. Be sure to eat before coming as being hungry/starving in this area has had dire historical outcomes. Remember, hurry along the path and never take any cut offs."

"Cool stop along I-80 if you are making the drive over the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The visitor center was closed when we got there but the monument is very awe inspiring. Campground and lake also accompany the property. Just be ready to pay 10 bucks to park and get out. Nothing is free in California, not even a stop to check out a historic monument!"
