What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise The Minarets for their sublime beauty and challenging, rewarding climbs. The alpine lakes are described as breathtaking, and the rugged peaks offer an unforgettable experience for hikers and mountaineers. Some note the demanding nature of the terrain and the necessity of proper preparation for backpacking and climbing.
"We began at 7:30 am on Saturday, July 30 from Agnew Meadows Trailhead at 8000ft. Beautiful and easy trail for about 8 miles passing gorgeous lakes: Shadow Lake, Ediza Lake, and then reaching Iceberg lake. Knowing that we have 20 miles total for today, we moved pretty fast. The trail is a bit rocky at times but very easy and class 1. The last lake, the Iceberg lake region involved some easy boulder hopping. We observed a few dark clouds but they did not roll in. The weather forecast from the morning looked pretty good for the day. The sun was bright and left no mercy on my skin despite the number of sunspots I’ve accumulated this year.
The class 2 climb began right after Iceberg Lake. The view from the climb was phenomenal of Iceberg Lake and Cecile Lake. We traveled towards the left side of the glacier and headed on the rock route going up. There was a ledge that ran across the northeast face of Clyde Minaret and a small tree where we went around it. We followed the chute that was on the right side of the ledge and kept away from the exposed sides. The rocks are solid, not crumbly, nor sandy. I loved it. The climb up is about 2000 feet in half a mile (from iceberg lake). Feeling the need to earn some “street cred”, I wanted to lead the climb up and my friend was in supportive of it. Popping up atop, there was a class 4 down climb. I looked at it for a minute and went first. Maybe I got lucky but it felt pretty good. The registry is slanted - make sure the books don't fall out when you open them. We summited Clyde Minaret 12,264ft at 4:30 pm.(SPS#170 and also on the list of Sierra Peaks Section Mountaineers Peaks)"
