What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests consistently praise The New Sheridan Hotel for its exceptional dining at the Chop House and its prime downtown location. The historic charm and attentive service are frequently highlighted as major positives. However, some visitors find certain rooms to be overpriced for the value, particularly those lacking views or amenities like in-room coffee makers, and occasional service inconsistencies on the rooftop bar have been noted.
"We had an amazing meal at The New Sheridan! From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The food was beautifully prepared — flavorful, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. The atmosphere captured that classic Telluride charm, blending historic elegance with a warm, welcoming feel.
What really stood out was the customer service — absolutely top-notch. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel valued. It’s rare to find a place where the service and cuisine are both this impressive.
Highly recommend dining here if you’re in Telluride — it’s truly a five-star experience!"

"Lovely boutique style hotel, great location right in middle of town, nice staff. Beds are really comfortable. Stayed on a Tuesday night in October. Windows looked out on a wall and while we were able to open them, there was an air conditioning unit or something like that right outside, so it was noisy. No daylight. Also got allergy problems in the room, but unsure why. No fridge or coffee maker (but coffee in lobby). They have better rooms with regular windows if you want to spend more than $400. 3 stars because of value for money. We found it too expensive for what you get, but can't beat location."

"My review is specifically about Sharron. We went here more than once during our trip and our first time at night was than less to be desired… so much so that when we went 2 days later for breakfast we were unsure.
Our expectations where beyond met at breakfast. Our food was amazing and our server Sharron was fantastic… the highlight really as she was so kind and attentive. She, unknowingly, made up for our precious experiences there. She claims to be morning person and it showed because she was kind upon arrival and whitty throughout brunch. Shout out to Sharron."

Dining at The New Sheridan
For a more casual, yet equally scenic, experience, the rooftop lounge is a must-visit. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or light fare while taking in the breathtaking mountain vistas of Telluride. Visitors recommend it for happy hour or a relaxed evening drink, especially when the weather is pleasant. However, be aware that service on the rooftop can sometimes be inconsistent, with some guests reporting slow service or staff prioritizing their own conversations.
While the hotel's dining is a major draw, it's worth noting that not all rooms come with in-room coffee makers. However, complimentary coffee is available in the lobby, ensuring you can still start your day with a warm beverage.
Understanding Room Value
Rooms facing interior courtyards, while potentially more affordable, may lack natural light and can be subject to noise from external units. Some guests have reported experiencing allergies in these rooms, though the cause was unclear. For those seeking the quintessential Telluride view, it's advisable to specifically request or book rooms with regular windows that overlook the town or mountains, as these are often considered superior and worth the higher price point.
Despite potential room variations, the comfortable beds and the hotel's central position make it a convenient base for exploring Telluride. The staff are generally described as nice and accommodating, contributing to the overall boutique hotel feel.
The Telluride Gondola Advantage
Traveling on the gondola provides a bird's-eye perspective of the stunning San Juan Mountains, the ski slopes, and the charming architecture of both areas. It's a fantastic, cost-free way to experience the grandeur of the landscape and is a highlight for many visitors, offering excellent photo opportunities.
This gondola is particularly useful for accessing different parts of the resort area without needing a car, making it a convenient and enjoyable aspect of a Telluride visit. It operates year-round, serving as both a practical transit option and a scenic attraction.
