Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Historic Downtown Taos for its captivating adobe architecture, vibrant art scene, and charming atmosphere. The unique shops and friendly locals contribute to its appeal. Some note that construction can be a minor inconvenience, and parking requires a fee in prime locations, but the overall experience is highly regarded as a cultural gem.

"After much research and never having been to Taos we decided to take the high road into Taos and the low load back. Our first stop was at Chimayo and we saw the Santuario de Chimayó, perhaps the most beautiful of the old churches along the route, though interior photos are not allowed. We next stopped at Truchas - the church there was a bit harder to find and it's not as interesting, though the drive along the town's main street was worth the time there. Next was Las Trampas and the Church of San José de Gracia. The exterior is picturesque though it was not possible to go inside on the day I visited. Well, yeah if you expect it to be the most scenic drive in America, you'll probably be disappointed. But it is still a nice, scenic, leisure drive.

The old town Square of Taos was historically interesting, not crowded as many of the shops were closed (Sunday afternoon) so we window shopped. We stopped in at the historic hotel on the square which had some interesting art on the walls in the entry. Several restaurants around the square were opened and the menus looked wonderful. We strolled down past the square to see other galleries and museums all closed on the day we visited. Hard to find free parking as most lots charge $5 payable by card but we parked several blocks away and walked.

We plan on taking the part of the enchanted loop around Taos and low road back."

"Quaint downtown area to enjoy various boutiques etc. I will say there is construction, the ability to move around with the construction is overstated. And I'm sure once it's complete people will still complain. Regardless, it's fun to walk around and enjoy the shops, get coffee and chocolate treats. It's a fun time, there is lots of people so expect crowds as you're navigating everything. We were able to walk everywhere from our parking at the La Fonda Inn as guests."

"Taos Historic Downtown is a 5-star treasure! The charming adobe architecture, vibrant art galleries, and rich cultural history create an enchanting vibe. Strolling the plaza, I loved the unique shops and friendly locals. A perfect blend of past and present—absolutely captivating! Don't miss it!"
