"This place is very fun. My kids loved seeing the live animals in their aquariums (snakes, turtles, and fish) and touching the various animal pelts along the wall. The downstairs has a children's area with dress-up station that was a big hit as well. Plus, it's only a short walk to the beach, so you can leave your car parked here for free, instead of waiting in the line of cars for the beach and paying for parking there."

"Adjacent to the state park proper, the Discovery Center is a great free nature museum showing all the local wildlife in the area with some live specimens to look at.
The downstairs is a more hands-on area for the kids to play around. There's also a souvenir shop here.
In the back, you can walk out to a pier and dock on the lake and it also connects to the long hiking trail which will lead you into the state park. I'd also recommend stopping by the center's aviary, just up the trail from the parking lot. Has a few large birds, to include their beautiful bald eagle.
They offer different activities for all ages each day of the week to include fishing and a bird watching walk. Great spot to check out for the family!"
