What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Chippokes State Park is praised for its rich history, working farm atmosphere, and beautiful natural setting along the James River. Visitors enjoy exploring the historic mansion and museum, as well as the beach and walking trails. However, some find the tent camping sites to be cramped and lacking in privacy, with difficult ground for stakes.
"Very nice state park. Our site was level, near the bath house, and offered plenty of privacy. Lots to see here, including the farm museum, the James, and historic houses and buildings. The pool remains closed, which is a bit sad, but we wouldn’t use it regardless. Good bike riding too!"

"It's a nice spot but tent camping there isn't great. The lots are cramped and small with packed gravel pads that are nearly impossible to get a tent stake into without a hammer. The proximity to a bathroom and firewood is nice but there was a large group in a single campsite with loud children and at least 6 lights including a bright lantern that completely ruined the outdoorsy vibe. They also had music going. I think I could have maybe just gotten a spot that was in the empty half, but if it was busy? ... it'd be like a motel without walls. It almost seems like people live there...but that can't be true."

"Had a wonderful time at the beach with the family. The kiddos searched for shark teeth and had a blast going swimming a few hundred feet from shore. There’s plenty to do and discover and yet we just chilled out at the beach together."
