What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Niles Canyon Railway for its nostalgic charm, beautiful scenery, and the passion of its volunteer staff. The Train of Lights event is a standout, offering a magical holiday experience, though tickets are notoriously hard to get. Some find the rides a bit short, but the overall historical immersion and pleasant atmosphere make it a highly recommended outing for all ages.
"If you have any sort of love for trains, or even just a like for them, you need to come ride the steam train in Sunol/Niles Canyon. Nicest people ever run the trains and work on them. All volunteers of course. Beautiful scenery the whole way and crossing over steel bridges too. There are even restrooms and a snack bar on the train!! Such a fun experience. Go solo, with you partner, or your grampa or your family, or anybody!! Can't wait to ride it again and bring more people with us next time, so they can enjoy it too. Free parking and you must buy tickets several weeks in advance. It always sells out. Get there at least a half hour before train leaves to walk around and get in line. Really cute gift shop on site too."

"Better than expected!
No rush, easy and quick walk to the train from parking. Despite the fact that we were running late, we were able to "catch the train".
The ride wasnt too long, infact short as the engine had to be changed and we stopped for a bit.
There was coffee and snacks on board at reasonable prices.
The train screamed history and took me back in time. Some visitors, as well as the conductors, seemed to have stepped on the train from the past. The scenery and the entire experience took me back on time, very nostalgic.
Anyone looking for a bit of history in California should definately visit and perhaps volunteer. Our older folks are currently volunteering and we need more people to volumteer to have such a good thing keep going.
In terms of children, mostly parents brought toddlers."

"The beer train is a fantastic experience. The crew is very nice and friendly. The trip is fun and pleasant, and the food and drinks were great. Well worth it!"
