What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the Casa Monica Hotel's stunning Moorish architecture and unbeatable historic St. Augustine location, placing them within easy walking distance of attractions. However, some visitors have noted that certain amenities have diminished over time, and room updates could be more extensive for the price point. Service inconsistencies have also been a point of concern for a few travelers.
"The hotel is beautiful and I love the history behind it. The room we stayed in was clean and would have been better suited for just two adults. We had a roll away bed for our daughter, and it was very cramped. Our room was located right by the pool which would have been fine had it not been for club music still blaring at 10 pm. There was also a very strong, gross smell when you were coming up the outdoor staircase by the pool area.
The location can’t be beat though. You are within close walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions, shopping, and food. If you take the trolley tour, you’re very close to a stop as well. Overall our stay was great but just wanted something a little quieter."

"Very nice location in the heart of everything. I loved the Moroccan theme and the rooms are cute and clean. Where this fell apart was after walking around all day in the summer, dripping on sweat, a little sun burned the room was bit made up yet. No towels or anything to take a cold shower. I went down to complain and was greeted with shrugs. It’s 5pm the room should be cleaned. I stay approximately 80 nights a year, this was unusual. I liked the bar and we would have come back in a month. On to the Hilton."

"I’m a Marriott Bonvoy member with over 800 stays. It’s rare to write a poor review on a property especially for a free night. A good friend gifted us a night to getaway for a special occasion. She sent us the reservation showing our names and contacted the hotel in advance to make sure everything was set. Unfortunately, this didn’t end up being the case. The hotel kept confusing it with a different reservation delaying check in. We were even contacted again after getting in the room. We experienced issues with the valet service and honestly felt the hotel’s value did not meet the $400+ a night cost. The location is nice but there are many other better options nearby. If you’re a Marriott member, try other properties. If you’re just looking for a quaint spot in this area, there are B&Bs that will be a better experience."

The lobby is particularly impressive, featuring a chic bar and a grand ambiance that has been appreciated by guests for years. This historical significance makes it more than just a place to stay; it's an experience in itself, offering a unique blend of history and luxury.
While the hotel has undergone renovations, its core architectural charm remains. It's a popular spot for those who appreciate historical buildings and unique design. The hotel's longevity and continued appeal are testaments to its enduring beauty and the vision of its creators.
Navigating Amenities and Guest Experiences
However, some recent reviews suggest a shift in the hotel's amenities compared to previous years. For instance, the former beach club offering has been described as less substantial than it once was. Additionally, while rooms are generally clean and themed, some guests feel they could benefit from further updates, especially considering the price point. Noise from the pool area and occasional service inconsistencies have also been mentioned, highlighting the importance of managing expectations.
Despite these points, the staff in housekeeping, the bar, and the pool area often receive commendations for their excellent service.
