I’ve been through this park many times on my visits to Vicksburg—Vicksburg National Military Park. On this visit, I go straight to the Illinois State Memorial. I stop and go in. I’ve never stopped before. After I visited the Old Depot Museum in town, I learned how integral Illinois was in that battle. I live in Illinois, so it only seemed right to finally stop. "Great exhibit, nice desk person. She was great to talk to and very informative. All of the exhibits felt very personal. I loved the ones that included photos of the actual people who owed the items. Hearing a diary or letter from someone in the 1910s was pretty surreal. Highly recommend stopping by. And the gift shop is well priced!"
