What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hemlock Falls is a charming and accessible natural spot, particularly loved by families for its easy trails and the delightful fairy trail. While some visitors find the waterfall itself small, especially during dry seasons, the overall experience of hiking alongside the creek and enjoying the peaceful scenery is highly appreciated. It's a great option for a light nature outing, though some may find the travel time outweighs the waterfall's grandeur.
"The place was a little hard to find, since I put it on my GPS... but perhaps my fault for missing the entrance. I truly enjoyed the hike, really needed to get out into nature. People there were super friendly, hiking. Can't wait to go back! Absolutely loved it!!
Kids will love the fairy trail... so amazing!"

"We went there with our family and dog on Sunday afternoon. We easily parked our car at the south parking lot, seems to be a maintenance area. The other parking is always full. This trail is quite easy but if you take the small paths, you will need shoes as there are a lot of small stones. I do not recommend to go with your crocs. Autumn colors are beautiful. The fall is quite nice but small. Maybe due to the dry season. The view on top of the falls is nice. It was nice to to it but not our fav trail in NJ."

"visited Hemlock Falls yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to access, especially for families with kids. I went with my 2-year-olds and my older kids (9 years old), and they all loved it. The walk from the parking lot to the waterfall is short and easy, perfect for little ones. The place is calm and peaceful, even though there was a fair amount of people since it was Sunday. I saw many families and quite a few people walking their dogs, which made the atmosphere even more friendly. I highly recommend it for moms with kids and for anyone looking for a light, enjoyable nature outing."

Exploring the Trails of Hemlock Falls
For those looking for a bit more adventure, smaller, unpaved paths branch off the main trail. These routes can be more rugged and rocky, requiring sturdier footwear than casual sandals or crocs. These side trails often follow the creek, offering a more immersive experience in the natural surroundings and leading to different perspectives of the falls and the surrounding landscape. The hike is generally considered a moderate effort, especially if exploring these less-maintained paths.
Visitors frequently mention the beauty of the trails, particularly during the fall when the foliage creates a stunning backdrop. The trails are also noted for their peaceful atmosphere, with benches placed along the way for visitors to rest and enjoy the scenery. The presence of striking plants and flowers adds to the visual appeal throughout the year.

This makes it a convenient and enjoyable outing for the whole family, including four-legged members. The overall atmosphere is described as calm and peaceful, even when moderately busy, with many families and dog walkers contributing to a friendly vibe.
Understanding the Waterfall's Flow and Best Viewing Times
Despite potential fluctuations in water volume, the surrounding natural beauty remains a constant draw. The hike itself, winding along the creek and through wooded areas, is often described as stunning and peaceful, regardless of the waterfall's intensity. The fall season, in particular, is highlighted for its breathtaking foliage, adding a vibrant visual layer to the visit. For those seeking the most impressive waterfall display, planning a visit during wetter months or after significant rainfall is advisable.
