"I drove this at night in my 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Premium. Great place to drive for a beginner. I recommend having ditch lights as some parts of the trail do get a little tight. Not very long, but took me about an hour to drive. I need to go back and re do this during the day."

"Before I say anything else, let me me tell you: This is not a route you want to travel in your Ford Probe. I read numerous reviews prior to going that said the main trail was passable with any vehicle as long as there were no recent rains. The trail was dry but soft sand and low clearance due to large ruts even challenged my 4WD Pathfinder. If the rental car company hadn’t provided me a free upgrade I may still be stuck on Quebradas, so thank you Budget for the Pathfinder, but I digress. If you’re still reading let me tell you this is worth the trip. The views are unmatched and the serenity is wonderful. My daughter was disappointed by the lack of flowers, but it is a desert and she’s four, so that probably isn’t going to be a disappointment you encounter on your adventure. The entire drive is approx. 25 miles long and there is no way off once you begin, but you can drive at least 20mph comfortably most of the way so it doesn’t have to be a 2-3 hour commitment if you don’t want it to be. There are plenty of places to pull off and hike, so pack accordingly if that’s something you’d like to have the option to do. I personally would have liked to see more animals but the terrain and views are definitely the draw for this location so the free roaming cows will have to suffice. You’ll have a great view of the sunset behind the mountains to the west from almost anywhere on the trail, if you go in the evening. Do your best to be back on the paved road by dark. Dirt roads and UFO’s go hand in hand in this part of New Mexico and that’s the second type of Probe you don’t want on this trail."

Granted, I only explored the first section. I have plans to survey the entire route, but so far so good. The road is well improved even though it traverses a landscape with many windings and diverse scenes.
The first stop features some amazing views and a deep canyon. There's a poorly maintained road into the canyon, but I preferred hiking down.
I visited in the Summer and still found plenty of water at the bottom of the canyon. I've posted some pictures below."
