"5 miles from Sisters out Three Creeks Road (Elm in town). Parking for a dozen vehicles. This .9 mile wide gravel loop offers amazing mountain views (3 view points) with little effort. When going counter clockwise on the trail, roughly 100 ft past the viewpoint with the rock wall you will see a small spur trail that breaks off to the right and down into the canyon. It runs along the ridge for a couple of tenths and then drops down to a main trail intersection close to the river. There are three choices but if you take a hard right and follow the sign that says Whychus canyon trail 1.8 miles, after just a quarter mile or so you are at the creek next to a log jam with some rapids, and in the fall some beautiful river birches. Stay awhile and you can either turn around and backtrack back which makes your 0.9 mile hike into more like 2.3, or you can hike all the way to the Why hus canyon trailhead which is also on Three Creeks Road but just at 4 MI out of town so it's a mile closer to Sisters. Parking is tight at both trailheads but in theory you could put a car at each trailhead and make your hike about 3.4 MI, or do it with one car and double the distance. We had been to the overlook several times before but didn't realize that there were so many options beyond mountain views if you went down into the canyon - waterfalls, the creek, and the ability to vary the length of your hike in a variety of ways as you can also hike further south and even hook up to the Metolius- Wingo trail which runs for many miles. This is 10 minutes out of sister so a good choice when you don't want a long drive to a hike."
