Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Quigley Canyon Open Space for its well-maintained, accessible trails suitable for various fitness levels and its beautiful natural scenery, especially during wildflower season. It's a convenient spot for a nature walk or a family outing, though the lack of facilities and limited parking are noted drawbacks.
"As has been mentioned enter the park/space from Railroad, Placerita Road and then park at the end of Cleardale St IF Google Maps doesn't take you there. Hiking: Has easy trails, some moderate, a couple that have some decent ascents. I'm 55 and out of shape and I did have to stop a couple of times on the City Loop but generally it's not too bad. I'd consider it one of the easy to intermediate, short and manageable trails. All the pictures and video are from that trail, City Loop. This review and the pictures are from a couple of wet winters so everything is lush and green. It won't look like this in August and the trail I took doesn't have a lot of shade but I've read elsewhere there is an Oak Grove on the trail that is the most flat and I'll update the review once I walk it. And, I will because I'll be back here. Well maintained Open Space/Trailhead with options, beauty and convenience. It's a stones throw from Newhall with views of very large houses the Santa Clarita Valley and mountain ranges. Luci and I enjoyed it very much. Recommended."

"Nice place for a walk. With our little kids, we did not make it far enough to do actual hiking. But the walk we took was easy enough for the kiddos. The trail is wide (at least until we turn around), so we just might take our double stroller next time. More horseback riders than hikers when we went on a Saturday morning in early February. Four stars because it’s not the most amazing open space, but it checks all the boxes of a decent spot for a nature walk."

"Beautiful time to ride at Quigley Canyon.
Wildflowers are abundant.
Be very careful though to watch for rattlesnakes.
Our group ran across two different rattlesnakes on two different trails.
The snakes didn't hurt us and went their own way, but do be careful especially if you are hiking with dogs and kids."

Hiking Trails and Difficulty
It's important to note that while the trails are well-maintained, they can be dusty and lack significant shade in many areas, especially during the summer months. Visitors have mentioned that an Oak Grove exists on one of the trails, which might offer more shade and a flatter terrain. The variety ensures that both casual walkers and more experienced hikers can find a route to enjoy the natural beauty of the canyon.
Best Times for Visiting and What to Expect
For a more peaceful experience, weekday afternoons are generally less crowded. Saturday mornings can be busier, with more horseback riders than hikers observed during certain times. If you're looking for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the cooler parts of the day in spring or fall. Summer can be quite hot with limited shade, so early morning visits are recommended if you plan to hike then.
Family and Kid-Friendly Aspects
A key consideration for families is the lack of on-site facilities, including restrooms. It's essential to plan ahead and use facilities before or after your visit. Despite this, the natural beauty and manageable trails make it a popular choice for a quick nature escape with the little ones.
