What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for establishments on Rue Royale are mixed, with many praising the ambiance and iconic status, particularly for Ladurée and Maxim's. However, some diners find the food overpriced for the quality or experience, and service can be inconsistent at times, especially in more formal settings.
"We rly enjoyed Tiya (ex ROOH chef’s new restaurant) so came to try ROOH which is a more casual but still modern Indian restaurant. Although the dishes weren’t as creative and meticulously executed, they were all very good! Nothing was impressive but nothing was bad either.
Would maybe come back to ROOH with friends, and go to Tiya for date nights :)
Recommend the dahi puri! The paneer pinwheel was ok - maybe our expectations were too high. The lamb shank was good. Chili crab was too oily and crispy prawns too sweet.
A bit overpriced for what it is - on the other hand although Tiya is more expensive, we felt like it was totally worth it. Still, a cool spot in the neighborhood to hang out and try smt new.
Edit 5/25:
Came back for the dahi puri, tried the tiki hash brown thing with yogurt and chutney and was soooo good.
Butter chicken was solid but nothing special. The mushroom dosa was a let down because how are you supposed to eat that? It’s more like crunchy topping on top of mushroom which was good but SO salty that made it only edible when wrapped in naan.
The daal was way too creamy and not spiced at all so we didn’t eat it either.
Will stick to small plates and appetizers next time 😅"

"Unfortunately, I’m not impressed and expected much more based on what I’d heard about this place.
The atmosphere is just okay, especially considering today’s standards for a decent restaurant. Service was good and quick.
The food, however, was below average. Portions were small, and the cocktails were not good at all— the Negroni, in particular, was disappointing if you know how a proper Negroni should taste.
The food overall weren’t impressive: nothing unique, not much of a “feel of India,” and not modern enough either. The desserts - I didn’t like at all. But on the plate everything looked kinda nice though.
The worst part was that after dining here, I experienced horrible abdominal pain that lasted until the morning.
If others enjoy this place, that’s fine, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll like it too."

"This place is for special occasions given the prices. Food was excellent. Each dish had a unique flavor and texture and presentation. Dishes are flavorful but not spicy. Portions are small. A small plate can be shared by two. Large is enough for one. Parking is on the street outside. Was not crowded on a Sunday evening. Service was attentive. Decent cocktail selection, again, the offerings are unique. We had lamb chops, paneer pinwheels, paneer puffs, Dahi Puri and the Masala lamb. $80 per person excluding tip"
