What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art for its incredibly detailed and lifelike decoy carvings, calling them some of the best they've ever seen. The scenic outdoor walking trail around Schumaker Pond is also a highlight, offering beautiful views and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Some note it's a smaller museum, best enjoyed with a focused appreciation for the art and local history.
"We're wedding photographers based in Washington, DC, but we recently got the chance to document a marriage celebration at The Ward Museum for Wildfowl Art. Though Salisbury, MD, is a bit of a hike for us, we would come back to photograph a wedding there any time! The setting is as gorgeous as any you'll find in the region. Schumaker Pond is absolutely lovely, and the trail that runs around it offers so many picturesque spots that we could spend hours there taking wedding portraits and not run out of beautiful backdrops. The main outdoor ceremony space on a lawn behind the main museum building gives you the chance to exchange your vows with a gorgeous view of Schumaker Pond stretching behind you. The huge windows that comprise one wall of the indoor reception area also give you a great look at the pond, as well as an opportunity to see a nice sunset if the weather cooperates!"

"We went to the museum on a Saturday morning right after they opened. Their award winning carvings are some of the best I've ever seen. It took us about 2 hours to go through the museum and the volunteer was their to offer us assistance and provide information. They have a nice outside area with sculptures and a walking trail. I highly recommend this museum for anyone who enjoys exquisitely detailed wood carving."

"This museum is incredible. They have 100+ year old lures, plenty of art from the Ward brothers, and mind blowing photorealistic carvings that were voted best in the world the year they were made. You can also buy handmade art in their gift shop from just a couple bucks for a hand painted bookmark to thousands for a lifelike bird carving."
