Be prepared for bugs, especially in summer.
"The trail head has limited parking, only 10 spots available. The hike is pretty long and step, but with some spots that werent so step on the way up , but to me The Channels were worth it . so cool and unique like a big rocky maze.. Also on my way down back to the trail head was a breeze and far easier than the hike up 😁"

"Great hike, peaceful area. It was a moderate hike, the last two miles were uphill, with the last mile being the most difficult, but it still wasn't terrible. There are plenty of places to sit and rest on rocks. Beautiful views occasionally through the trees. The channels were so fun! We spent a good couple of hours exploring and climbing around. Be sure to wear big spray, the mosquitos in July were brutal. If you have a fear of bees, maybe wait until fall. The rhododendrons were blooming and the bees were everywhere, but they weren't bothersome. 10/10 would recommend doing this hike!"

"I saw this hike last year, but it was closed due to Helene's aftermath. It's open again and I really wanted to do it on my way from NC to WV. It was a relatively easy and gradual hike with a few steeper sections towards the top. If you pay attention to the trail markings and signage, you really can't get lost. Until you get into the channels themselves and then all bets are off so go with someone or go when others are there. It can get a little spooky and disconcerting if you are there completely by yourself. Especially if you are directionally incompetent like me. Great place and so unique though. I would love to go back and explore some more!"
