What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Whistler's Bend County Park is praised for its beautiful setting and excellent disc golf course, with recent improvements enhancing the overall experience. However, summer visitors should be aware of the heat in yurts and the short shower spray times. Some guests also noted issues with yellow jacket traps and cleanliness in certain areas.
"We stayed in yurt 3 Aug 22-24th during a heat advisory. The Friday we got there it was 100 degrees and the second day was 96-98 . We were MISERABLE as these yurts don't have an AC unit and they are a HOT BOX, nor did they have a fan. Dollar general to the rescue because we bought a fan from there. They have yellow jacket traps all over this park and they placed them right in the campsites. One was so full we asked the host to switch it out (thankfully he did). These traps attract the yellow jackets ! Saturday morning I took a shower and it was lukewarm. Rather disappointed. The bathrooms were clean but not the showers (spiders all over!). If the bathrooms can have AC the yurts should have them. I think it's wild we have to sweep out a yurt when we pay so much to be there. Around the edges on the inside was full of dust and and dirt despite people having to sweep. They don't seem to be cleaned regularly by staff. The other yurts do not have shade (no trees), thankfully ours did. The heat made this trip miserable.. beautiful campground and the playground was nice. But the day use area (where you'd swim or float) was rather packed and not enjoyable for those who paid to be there- though we managed. Some people are inconsiderate of space and being loud drunks by the river. I will not stay here again in the summer until they get AC units in the yurts."

"This place rocks! I'm not usually into campgrounds, but this was perfect for our needs recently. Plenty of room at each site, immaculate bathrooms, huge covered pavilion, river access, playground, and the coolest disc golf course I've seen. It ticked all the boxes for everyone, will happily return one day."

"This has always been a beautiful spot, but always felt like it was not being maintained. Over the last ten years that has dramatically changed for the better!
The park is beautiful now with better roadways, the most beautiful disk golf course I have ever seen (although Shampoeg is hard to beat). The day use area updates are fantastic and river access is the best.
Campgrounds are better defined now, although the lower one could use some updated restrooms, it can't be beat for river views and access.
Good job Douglas County Parks for all the work going into this gem."

Disc Golf at Whistler's Bend
Many disc golfers, including professionals like Nate Sexton, have highlighted Whistler's Bend as a must-play destination. The course offers a rewarding experience for both seasoned players and those looking to test their skills. The park's commitment to maintaining and enhancing this disc golf facility is evident, making it a significant draw for visitors specifically seeking a top-tier disc golf experience. Planning a visit around a disc golf tournament or simply a casual round can be a highlight of any trip to the area.
When planning your disc golf adventure, consider the time of year. While the course is playable year-round, summer can bring heat and increased insect activity, such as yellow jackets. The park's natural setting means you'll encounter wildlife, adding another layer of enjoyment to the game. Remember to bring plenty of water and be prepared for a challenging yet rewarding round on this exceptional course.
Camping and Accommodation Options
For those seeking a unique stay, the park features rustic yurts. While these offer a comfortable shelter, it's important to note that they do not come with air conditioning. During the hot Oregon summers, this can lead to very warm conditions inside the yurts, prompting some visitors to bring fans for relief. Shade availability can vary between yurts, so it's worth inquiring about this when booking. The park's campgrounds are generally well-maintained, with restrooms that are cleaned daily, though shower facilities have received mixed reviews regarding spray duration.
Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially for yurts and popular campsites, as Whistler's Bend is a sought-after destination. The park's ongoing improvements have enhanced the camping experience, making it a beautiful spot to stay and enjoy the natural surroundings.
River Activities and Day Use
While the river is a major draw, it's important to be aware of conditions. During peak summer months, the day-use area can become quite crowded with people enjoying the water. Visitors have noted that some individuals can be inconsiderate regarding space and noise levels. Despite this, the river remains a fantastic spot for cooling off on a hot day and enjoying the natural environment.
For those planning to spend time by the river, remember to pack accordingly. Sun protection, water shoes, and flotation devices are recommended. While the park has yellow jacket traps, which can attract insects, enjoying the river is still a highlight for many visitors.
