What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Adkins Arboretum for its beautiful, well-maintained native landscapes and the harmonious integration of art installations. The free admission, peaceful atmosphere, and family-friendly features like the children's garden are frequently highlighted as major draws. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some mention the unpredictability of a nearby bridge as a minor logistical concern for some visitors.
"Beautiful arboretum, beautifully maintained. Great staff and great facility. Nice small nature-oriented book store. Well maintained paths and trails with educational plaques and info. Frequent special events."
Bob Ostergaard
"This place feeds my soul each time I visit. I had the opportunity to take a nature journaling class with Diane DuBois Mullaly, and I can't say enough good things about the experience. When the world is full of noise, this is where you can focus on peace, nature, art, beauty, and more. Be sure to take in a program or festival, or just a walk. The paths are wide and the shade is delicious even on a hot day. Plus, leashed dogs are allowed which is a big plus for me. This is also a perfect stop to stretch your legs for beachgoers using 404 either to or from their vacation destinations."
Tracey Johns
"Can I give the place 10 stars? It's not the 400 acres, it's what they have done with it to make this beautiful nature preserve. The buildings and art installations work in harmony with the nature around. You will find well thought out exhibits, interactive activities, backpack kits with different themes to explore the place as a family. Knowledgeable staff, fun little maps and field guides, a cute gift shop with unique goodies, and adequate bathroom facilities.
I just FELL IN LOVE.
Had the most magical nature walk with my family. As the birds were chirping all around us, we read poems that were hanging from tree branches, we were learning from and admiring nature. I was surprised when we spotted a paw paw tree- there are many! I ate one and it reminded me of home. I recommend the art sculpture walk. You have to be in tune with your surroundings to spot the pieces, which are playful and in harmony with nature.
There seem to be many very interesting events that happen here. Soup and walk, art activities, beer and a bluegrass band, and much more! I live an hour and a half away, but am inspired to come back often- even if I have to cross that unpredictable bridge!"
