What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Santander Performing Arts Center for its beautiful historic architecture and phenomenal sound quality, making for memorable live performances. While most find the staff friendly and the seats comfortable, some note limited legroom in older sections and occasional technical glitches during shows.
"this was such a cute venue! we came for the Twilight In Concert and wow. the orchestra was phenomenal! the theater is really cute - we had orchestra seats so I can't speak to anywhere else. the seats were really comfortable and there was a good amount of leg room. It was handicap accessible, the staff was very friendly.
I will say, however, we were a little disappointed in the event because chunks of the movie were missing. it kept blipping out and we would see them restarting it on screen. they were having technical issues and we never heard an apology or anything from the theater - even during intermission. we lost at least 30-40min of the movie. that was a bummer. and it would've been nice if someone had acknowledged it."

"We saw Vince Gill last night at the Performing Arts Center. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. The sound for the show was absolutely phenomenal. This is a testament both to need to worst sound engineers, as well as the acoustics of the venue. The staff of the Performing Arts Center were very courteous. My only concern at all was the seating. We were sitting in the front section of the balcony and the old seats are incredibly close together and did not provide sufficient leg room. I realize that is primarily due to the age of the theater, but it was somewhat limiting to the comfort of the guests. Otherwise, I think this is a great place to see a show, and I'm sure that there are other seats in the auditorium that may provide some better legroom."

"On September 5th, we attended the Dream Theater concert at this theater. We arrived politely and respectfully, fully complying with all rules: we had a transparent bag, sealed protein shakes, and sealed protein bars — everything in line with the official requirements both posted at the entrance and sent in the venue’s email.
Yet security refused us entry. The head of security behaved arrogantly, aggressively, and rudely, yelling that “these are his personal rules,” even though they directly contradicted the official venue policies. It was clear that security was more interested in forcing guests to buy beer and snacks inside (which they likely profit from) than in following their own regulations.
I calmly tried to explain that I am on a strict diet and this is a health matter, but I was not even allowed to be heard. As a result, I had to sit through the entire concert without food. My blood sugar dropped, and I nearly suffered a hypoglycemic episode during the event. This was not just rudeness — it was a direct threat to my health.
What should have been a great concert turned into a miserable experience. The organizers clearly allow their staff to ignore posted rules, mistreat guests, and put people’s health at risk just to push the sales of junk food and alcohol. Absolutely unacceptable — I would never recommend this venue to anyone.
A photo of the man because of whom I almost ended up in the hospital - in the photo.
Of course, my food was taken away and thrown away, you can see it on the table too"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
It's crucial to check the venue's bag policy before attending, as they often require clear bags, and outside food/drinks are typically not allowed. This means planning for snacks and drinks to be purchased inside, or ensuring your child is comfortable with the available options. The historic charm of the venue can also be an engaging element for children, offering a glimpse into a different era. Always check the specific event details to ensure it's appropriate for your family's age group.
💰 Budget Travelers
Parking can also be a significant expense. Exploring street parking options further from the venue and walking a few blocks can save money compared to premium lot fees. Consider packing your own snacks and sealed drinks if the venue's policy allows (though be aware of strict enforcement reported by some patrons), or plan for a more budget-friendly meal at a casual eatery nearby rather than a sit-down restaurant. The historic ambiance itself is a free bonus that adds value to the experience.
🎶 Music Enthusiasts
For the best audio experience, consider seats that offer a clear line of sight to the stage and are within the venue's optimal sound projection zones. While some older seats might have comfort limitations, the auditory pleasure is often paramount for true music aficionados. Checking the event schedule regularly is key to catching your favorite bands or discovering new artists performing in this acoustically superior venue.

The Historic Charm of the Venue
This historical aspect also influences practical considerations. For instance, the older seating in some sections, particularly the balcony, can be quite close together and offer limited legroom. While this might be a drawback for some, many patrons find the overall experience worth the minor discomfort, especially given the venue's other strengths. The acoustics are a major draw, with sound quality frequently described as phenomenal, a testament to both the building's design and the expertise of the sound engineers.
When planning your visit, it's worth noting that the venue's historical nature means some aspects, like seating, might not meet contemporary standards for spaciousness. However, the rich atmosphere and excellent sound often outweigh these minor inconveniences. It's a place where the past and present of performance art converge, offering a memorable backdrop for any event. The friendly and courteous staff further enhance the visitor experience, contributing to the venue's positive reputation.
Navigating Shows and Ticketing
When attending a show, be aware of the venue's bag policy. Many performing arts centers, including the Santander, often have restrictions on bag size and type, frequently requiring clear or transparent bags for security reasons. It's essential to review the venue's specific guidelines on their website before your visit to avoid any entry issues. Similarly, outside food and beverages are generally prohibited, and there have been reports of security being particularly strict, even with sealed items that might seem permissible.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, consider VIP or premium seating options if available. These often provide better views and sometimes include additional amenities. However, it's important to note that even in premium seats, some patrons have found the legroom to be limited in certain sections due to the venue's age. Despite these potential challenges, the overall consensus is that the phenomenal sound quality and the historic ambiance make attending a show at the Santander Performing Arts Center a worthwhile experience.
