What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise North Beach for its soft sand and fantastic family-friendly playground, making it a popular spot for a relaxing day by Lake Michigan. While the free parking and beautiful setting are major draws, some guests note issues with litter on the beach and the cleanliness of public restrooms.
"This is truly a great beach. The sand is so soft. My reason for not giving 5 stars is that there is plenty of garbage. People need to pick up after themselves and maybe whoever takes care of beach can do something to help that."
Koreen Pozza
"This is a pretty nice public beach with lots of sand and decently nice water to spend some time in. They have lifeguards and designated swim areas making this a great place for those with kids. They also have a playground just a short walk away which is another nice bonus. The parking lot is relatively large, though you should get here early to ensure you can find a good spot. Biggest drawback is the gross bathrooms which are not cleaned very well. Try not to use them if you don't have to."
Sam Sachs
"Great beach. Clean and lots of parking. I just wish either the public bathrooms were open or there were more port a johns. The port a johns are by the playground area. They were clean."

Family Fun at North Beach
Beyond the playground and swimming, the park offers ample space for picnics and relaxation. While the main beach area is a draw, the proximity of the playground means kids can easily transition between beach play and active fun. Visitors should be aware of potential litter and the condition of public restrooms, but the overall experience for families is overwhelmingly positive due to these dedicated play and safety features.
Navigating Parking and Crowds
For those seeking a more tranquil experience, visiting on a weekday can significantly reduce the crowd levels. This allows for easier access to parking and a more relaxed atmosphere on the beach itself. If a weekend visit is unavoidable, being prepared for potential delays in parking and a busier beach environment is key. The free parking is a major perk, but it comes with the caveat of needing to plan your arrival time strategically.
Beach Cleanliness and Amenities
Regarding amenities, the public restrooms have been a point of contention for some. While facilities are available, their upkeep can be inconsistent. Many visitors suggest utilizing the port-a-potties located near the playground area, which are often reported to be cleaner and more accessible. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall appeal of the soft sand, the lake access, and the excellent playground continues to draw visitors to North Beach.
