Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the breathtaking views of the Rio Grande Gorge and the helpfulness of the visitor center staff. The camping experience, particularly for RVers, is noted for its scenic beauty and good cell service, though some sites require careful navigation. The area offers a rugged, natural escape, but potential visitors should be aware of possible road and trail closures, and the need for sun protection.

"Helpful staff. Restrooms closed. Road into this area closed to 1 way traffic with a stop light and piolet car at 5 mph to take you all the way to the visitors center adding 30 min to the visit. However the views at the La Junta campground and trail head were wonderful. There is a bike lane that follows the 1 way loop drive from the visitor center to La Junta campground and look out. We saw Lots of bikers riding this loop and one told us he’s been coming for years. Very sunny and hot the day we visited in mid September. Recommend hat, water, sunscreen. The La Junta trail has been closed for 3 years or so. Overall kind of disappointing, thus the 2 star review."

"Camped here for a night, hiked down to the river and watched an amazing sunset over the canyon. The lady who helped us in the visitor center was super helpful in our decision which camp site to pick."

Reid Curnutt

"As others have stated, Wild Rivers BLM is definitely off the beaten path. However, its easy to get here down a main paved highway. The roads in the park are paved. The campsite loops are gravel/unpaved but ok. We travel in a 38 Renegade Valencia. We found only a few sites that could easily handle our size. (No tow vehicle). Site 27 in El Auguaje was long enough for even a tow vehicle. Trees are an obstacle backing in. Park time was 10 minutes max. A little maneuvering. Its worth the drive and the maneuvering for the campground & the views. The campgrounds are connected by a nice, one way paved road loop with a bicycle path. My wife loves to e-bike so this is perfect. Each site has a gazebo with a metal roof & picnic table. No electricity. No dump. Water is available at the toilets. This is boondocking at its best.

AT&T was 20mbs. Great! We camped at El Aguaje Campground in a 38’ Super C."
