What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Princeton University Art Museum for its free admission and surprisingly rich collection of ancient, medieval, and contemporary art. Many appreciate the engaging explanations and the ability to take photos. Some find the original building's architecture less fitting with the campus aesthetic, but anticipation is high for the new, expanded facility.
"The permanent collection here is extensive and worth the visit, ence the five stars.
However, I'm not impressed by the new building and how the collection is presented. You can spend a couple of hours and be already owerwhlmed by the space. Try the restaurant on the 3rd floor if that is the case.
There's no clear flow between the galleries, the architecture here is imposing and a lot of times distracting, too many different textures, everywhere. The precast alone would have been fine."

"I was eager to see the museum in its new footprint for years, and finally had a chance to go a week after it officially reopened. The new space is beautifully curated. Many open spaces to gather, inside and out. Sharing in the enthusiasm of so many other art lovers was electric. Since we didn’t have a lot of time, we prioritized the temporary exhibits and a few specific pieces in the permanent collections that we like to “visit.” The best thing about this museum is that it is free for all, providing access to the arts for everyone in the community."

"The newly renovated Princeton University Art Museum is stunning. The space feels open, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with art from around the world displayed in a way that’s both inspiring and easy to explore. From Japanese prints and Roman sculptures to vibrant South Asian and Mesoamerican pieces, every gallery feels fresh and engaging. A world-class museum experience right in Princeton—highly recommended."
