"So much transportation history crammed into such a small area and at the heart of it all is a single beautiful stone arch bridge. The bridge we see today is a 4-arch stone bridge constructed in 1798 to span the Millstone River. This is the second oldest bridge in the state. The original wooden bridge was burned in 1777 by Washington’s troops.
The road this bridge carried across the river would in 1807 become part of the Princeton and Kingston Turnpike, connecting Trenton to Kingston by way of Princeton (why not the Trenton Kingston Turnpike is beyond me). This was one of New Jersey’s oldest toll roads but today is free to travel. When the state began numbering its highways it was designated Route 13 but later changed to Route 27. This road also served as part of the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway connecting New York City with San Francisco. Finally in 1969 this bridge was retired and bypassed by a new bridge to the north.
At 227 years old this beautiful structure still carries the occasional car across the river, but the majority of its traffic is that of people exploring this historic site, the mill, canal, and railroad (yes there was even a rail line here).

Identifying the builder of the bridge though I could not find a reference to the builders first name.
A few more fun facts. The font used in the engravings on the bridge is Baskerville showing that British style still influenced New Jersey in the late 1700s. Also a map from 1849 identifies a village between Princeton and Kingston on this road just south of the bridge. Not surprisingly it was Queenston."

"This beautiful place has a little bit of everything that we enjoy... old bridges, canals, rivers and streams, historic buildings, grassy fields for our dogs to enjoy. It is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon. The stone bridge dates to 1798. Post-Colonial but not by much. The wooden bridge is much newer, as stated on the sign that describes our man Wahington's actions against the Brits."

"Replacing an older wooden bridge that was burned during the American Revolution, the stone built Kingston Bridge was constructed in 1798. The bridge carried Route 27 (Old Lincoln Highway) across the Delaware & Raritan Canal, as well as Millstone River. In 1963, Kingston Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic, and Route 27 was rerouted across the nearby, more modern bridge. Kingston Bridge is currently open to pedestrians and is part of the picturesque Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park and Kingston Grist Mill."
