What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Falls Road Golf Course is praised for its fast pace of play and generally good course conditions, especially the greens. However, some visitors find the marshal's strictness about pace to be overly militant and intrusive, detracting from the overall experience. The layout is considered decent but not exceptionally challenging compared to other local options.
"Solid public course located in Potomac, MD. Good variety in terms of slope, direction, and distance. 20+ range bays and a practice green. A grill with several dining and drinking options."

"For a municipal course, the conditions were great - especially the greens. Good price in line with other public courses in the area. Very walkable course with the tips being less than 6,200 yards and all the tee boxes being right by the previous greens. The pace of play was lightning fast for a public course. The marshall, while friendly, was being a bit irritating about our pace. We finished the front 9 in 1 hour and 40 minutes, and he told us that we needed to pick up the pace of play and keep pace with the group in front of us. They had 2 people, we had 4. The people behind us had 3 guys and they never caught up to us, so there was no reason for the marshal to push us like that. We love playing fast golf, but the marshalls were a little too invasive and being a bit ridiculous about the pace which made our experience a bit less enjoyable. I also heard other people voice similar complaints about the marshall being all over them for no reason. Final pace of play was 3 hours and 40 minutes. Still overall a good experience, and I'd rather have lightning fast pace of play than slow play, so I'll certainly return in the future"

"Course conditions are usually good, but there's nicer moco courses with way better course design.
The staff is also weirdly on edge every time I'm here. Feels like starter is always lecturing each group and then you're a few minutes late to your tee time; and I'm all for pace of play, but it's weirdly militant here in a way it isn't at other moco courses. You can play the front 9 in 90m-ish and you'll still be asked to skip a hole to break some ridiculous time constraint they set for the full 18. (I've never been asked to skip hole(s) anywhere else in my life except for this course)
If you can go somewhere else, do it"

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
However, parents should be aware of the strict pace of play enforcement. If your children are new to golf or tend to play at a more leisurely pace, you might encounter pressure from marshals. It's advisable to communicate the course's expectations to your family beforehand and perhaps aim for a weekday visit when the course might be less crowded and the pace enforcement slightly more relaxed.

Navigating the Pace of Play
This strictness is a defining characteristic of the Falls Road experience. While it can lead to a swift 4-hour round, as reported by satisfied players, it can also be a point of contention for those who prefer a more leisurely game. Understanding this aspect before your visit can help manage expectations and ensure a more enjoyable outing. The goal is to play efficiently without feeling unduly rushed.
For those who enjoy a fast-paced game, this course might be ideal. However, if you prefer to take your time, soak in the scenery, and not feel pressured, you might want to consider other options or plan your visit for a time when marshals are less active.
Course Design and Conditions
Regarding course conditions, reviews are generally positive, especially concerning the greens and tee boxes, which are frequently described as being in excellent shape. However, fairways can be more variable. After periods of extreme heat, humidity, or heavy rainfall, some areas, particularly those closer to the woods, may show signs of wear or damage. While this is often expected given the weather, it's something to be aware of.
Despite these minor variations, the course is considered walkable, with a thoughtful layout where tee boxes are conveniently situated near the preceding greens. This design contributes to the overall efficiency of play.
Practice Facilities and Amenities
Beyond the practice areas, the course offers a grill with dining and drinking options. This amenity is particularly convenient for players looking for a quick bite or a refreshing drink during their round, often available right at the turn. This adds to the overall convenience and enjoyment of a day spent at the course.
