What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rockwood Music Hall is widely loved for its incredible live music, diverse genres, and most notably, its free entry for most shows. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to discover new artists and soak in the vibrant Lower East Side atmosphere. Some find the lack of seating challenging during peak times, and the absence of trash cans inside can be a minor inconvenience.
"The famous mansion that once stood on this property was Rockwood Hall, designed by British architect Gervase Wheeler in 1849 for merchant Edwin Bartlett. Industrialist William Rockefeller, younger brother of even wealthier industrialist John D. Rockefeller Sr., purchased the house and surrounding land in 1886. The Gothic Revival house was not big enough for him, and his additions greatly increased its size. Unfortunately, the property proved too difficult to maintain. William Rockefeller died in his mansion in 1922 at age eighty-one, and his heirs sold the property. After twenty sad years as the site of bankrupt country clubs, the building was destroyed around 1942."

"I love this place! Very beautiful esp. at sunset! Calm place to enjoy. The only thing they don’t have any trash cans inside so if you take let’s say a cup of coffee with you from Starbucks you will need to carry empty cup all the way back to your car."
Elena Malik
"Nice paths for walking and seating overlooking the Hudson. Very picturesque. Pity the mansion is gone."
