"Open for tours again. You do need to reserve online. Free parking along the streets nearby. The tour starts on time with a video presentation of the history of the house and the Tournament of roses Parade. Then you tour all the rooms on the first and second floor. There is a basement and attic which are not open to tour as they are just storage at this time. Our guide was great and the entire tour lasted 2 hours. You learn about the region from the early 1800's to present . Great furniture, architectural elements, trophies, jewelry, etc.
The rose garden outside is fantastic and is always open to view without going on a tour."

The Legacy of the Wrigley Family
Wrigley's passion for horticulture led him to develop the extensive rose gardens on the property. He famously acquired adjacent land specifically to expand his rose cultivation, aiming to create one of the most impressive rose collections in Southern California. This dedication to beauty and nature is still evident today in the meticulously maintained gardens.
After the Wrigley family, the mansion eventually came under the ownership of the City of Pasadena. It was designated as the headquarters for the Tournament of Roses, the organization behind the world-famous Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game. This transition cemented its place in local history and made it a landmark for visitors and residents alike.
Exploring the Tournament House Gardens
Beyond the roses, the grounds feature a variety of other flora, including mature trees that provide shade and a sense of established beauty. The design of the gardens, with their well-defined paths and thoughtful arrangement of beds, invites leisurely strolls and moments of quiet contemplation. It's a tranquil oasis that offers a serene escape from the urban bustle.
While the gardens are a year-round attraction, the peak blooming season for roses is typically in the spring, with a secondary bloom in the fall. However, even outside of peak bloom, the lush greenery and architectural elements of the garden make it a delightful place to visit. It's also a popular spot for photography, capturing the natural beauty and elegant surroundings.
The Tournament of Roses Connection
The mansion's role as the Tournament House means it's a hub for the planning and organization of the annual parade. This connection adds a layer of cultural significance to the visit, allowing guests to appreciate not just the architecture and gardens, but also the tradition and community spirit that the Tournament of Roses represents.
For those interested in the history of the parade, a tour of the Wrigley Mansion provides valuable context. Learning about the evolution of the floats, the participants, and the overall spectacle from the mansion's unique vantage point offers a deeper understanding of this beloved Pasadena tradition.
