What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Matt Ross Community Center is praised for its excellent free indoor playground and enjoyable community pool, making it a great value. However, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in cleanliness in locker room areas and occasional issues with customer service at the front desk. Accessibility features could also be improved.
"Nice visit, hours are great, pool was pretty laid back and I appreciate the number of lifeguards. When leaving, it would be nice if the front desk staff at least said bye, wished us a nice day or even waved and smiled."

"Great facility! Love the pool and atmosphere. But the pool needed sweeping and the locker room showers weren’t swept each a day so hair is just left in the drains and on the walls. But otherwise great facility.
But then there was that really bratty young short-dark haired individual working the front desk that really epitomized the definition of Overland Park privilege. He obviously seemed pretty new. Most of the people there did not give that impression. But when I had already paid for a day pass and wanted to upgrade to a weekly pass, he tried to give me an attitude and say that it wasn’t possible to reduce the weekly pass, and yet his older gentlemanly coworker would always contradict him and say that he was misinformed. I was once a teen teenager that grew up in Overland Park so I understand the meaning of being white and privileged and ignorant, but you have to learn at some point that if you’re going to work in customer service, nobody is going to like your service if you give them an attitude. I kept asking about discounted fares because I’m poor and very disabled currently and he kept giving me wrong information when it’s clearly in your pamphlet that you do offer discounted services to somebody like myself and then he also tried to give me a bit of an attitude about the fact that I didn’t live in Overland Park full-time when I don’t think that that really matters so much when I still pay taxes to Overland Park. I still spend a great deal of my time there, and I still qualify for the other discounts that he failed to mention. But it seemed like he was more interested in stereotyping me rather than giving me the information that he clearly knew about.
Also, you have far too few open-assist doors for how modern this building is. And with your budget, it seems really easy for you guys to retrofit your doors like your locker room doors so the disabled can actually use them easily. And then most ironically, your front door assist button was blocked by an object so it wasn’t just very far and out-of-the-way, it was also impossible to get to if you were in a wheelchair."

"I took the tour of the facility. Enjoyed the pool area today. Its a best kept secret gem. The staff was very informative, friendly and professional. Very clean facility"
