I understand why they made the move of the capital to a more traditionally neoclassical building, but I adore the Victorian age Romanesque revival, and this has a lot of elements of that. There's the heavy, broad ceremonial arch and imposing turrets with conical roofs, as well as a general use of rusticated stone for construction: all of this contributes to the overall effect of the building, which others have noted resembles an old British castle. This kind of style, along with a mixture of the symmetrical and the exuberantly ornate, is very 19th century. The structure enobles and elevates the spirit above the mechanical routines of a mechanistic commercial world, as good architecture should. I also appreciate the intricate bronze statue of George Washington made for the bicentennial of the United States and placed in front of the arch."
