"Absolutely incredible place! Driving a car right on the beach is an unforgettable experience. It’s especially inspiring at sunset, when the sun turns the ocean and sky deep shades of crimson. You feel pure happiness as you cruise along the water with the windows down and the breeze on your face.
Highly recommended to everyone!"

"An absolutely cracking beach. Soft white sand goes on either direction from the pier for what appears to be miles.
The ice cold Pacific doesn't put water sport enthusiasts off and with families attending for fun days out this is a myst to visit.
Outstanding sunset from any perspective.
Only downside was seeing dog owners with their dogs walking then shitting on the beach. And owners not cleaning up. Dirty, crabby and a public hygiene risk Would be 5 stars if the dog owners would clean up."

Driving on the Oceano Dunes
To make the most of your beach driving experience, it's crucial to be prepared. All-Wheel Drive (AWD) or Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles are highly recommended to navigate the soft sand effectively and avoid getting stuck. Always check the tide charts before heading out, as high tides can significantly reduce the drivable area and create hazardous conditions. A small day-use fee is required for vehicle entry, making it an affordable adventure.
Beyond just driving, the Oceano Dunes SVRA offers opportunities for camping directly on the beach, creating an immersive coastal experience. It's also a popular spot for activities like ATV riding and dune buggy rentals, adding an extra layer of excitement for thrill-seekers. Remember to be courteous to other beachgoers and adhere to posted speed limits and safety guidelines.
Capturing Pismo's Stunning Sunsets
For the best photographic results, aim to arrive at least an hour before sunset. This allows you time to find a good spot, set up your gear, and capture the changing light as the sun dips lower. Golden hour, the period just before sunset, offers soft, warm light that is incredibly flattering for landscapes and portraits. Experiment with different angles and compositions – try including the pier, the waves, or even the silhouettes of people enjoying the view.
Even if you're not a professional photographer, simply taking a moment to appreciate the sunset is a must-do at Pismo State Beach. The experience is often described as peaceful and awe-inspiring, providing a perfect end to a day spent by the ocean. Remember to bring a jacket, as the coastal air can become quite cool once the sun goes down.
Beach Etiquette and Cleanliness
Beyond pet waste, general beach cleanliness is paramount. Visitors are encouraged to pack out everything they pack in, disposing of trash in designated bins or taking it with them. This includes food wrappers, plastic bottles, and any other debris. By being mindful of our impact, we can help preserve the pristine condition of Pismo State Beach for future generations to enjoy.
Respecting the natural environment also means being aware of wildlife. Avoid disturbing shorebirds and their nesting areas. When driving on the dunes, stay within designated areas to minimize erosion and protect fragile ecosystems. Adhering to these simple guidelines ensures that Pismo State Beach remains a beautiful and enjoyable destination for all.
