What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests praise the spacious rooms and the exceptional service from staff like Rena at the front desk, who offers great local insights. However, some find the room lighting dim, dining options limited until late afternoon, and encounter issues with parking accessibility. The hotel's security is a noted positive, though concerns about the surrounding downtown area's crime and homelessness are mentioned.
"I recently stayed at the Oakland Marriott City Center and had the absolute pleasure of working with Rena at the front desk. She is the perfect example of what exceptional customer service looks like.
From the moment I approached the front desk, Rena was incredibly welcoming and professional. I had numerous questions about the hotel amenities, local attractions, and Oakland area recommendations, and she patiently addressed every single one with genuine enthusiasm and expertise.
What truly impressed me was Rena's extensive knowledge of the Oakland market. Whether I needed restaurant recommendations, directions to local attractions, or insights about the best neighborhoods to explore, she had thoughtful, detailed answers that showed she really knows the area well. Her local expertise made my stay so much more enjoyable and helped me discover parts of Oakland I never would have found on my own.
Rena's patience was remarkable - she never once made me feel rushed or like my questions were an inconvenience, even when I returned to the desk multiple times throughout my stay. Her warm, professional demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond truly elevated my entire hotel experience.
The Oakland Marriott City Center is fortunate to have someone like Rena representing their brand. She embodies everything you want in exceptional hospitality service. I will absolutely be returning to this hotel, and I hope to have the pleasure of working with Rena again."

"Rooms are large and spacious but dark. All the lights are shoulder height or below and are yellow toned including the bathroom which is nice when you want to relax but is not helpful when you’re trying to get ready in the morning and it feels like you’re in a cave. Especially when putting on make up it was challenging because my face was constantly shadowed.
Also, do not expect to have drinking water in the room you will need to use a plastic cup and the water dispenser in the lobby or request water bottles from housekeeping.
And if you need to eat lunch in the area, options within walking distance are limited to sweet greens or coffee shops. And while the hotel restaurant opens at 4pm it is limited to the happy hour menu only. If you want more options you will need to wait until 5pm.
Overall staff are friendly and responsive to requests. I give my stay a 3.5/5 stars."

"Rooms are nice. Service was poor, (not complaining about the cost) regarding who gets to park, where. Three different answers from three different staff members, but the question was the same. I'm going to ask the State of California, the agency that deals with these matters. I already see that the seemingly AI responses to reviews are boring and don't appear to be genuine.
I was denied parking in a disabled parking spot at the Hotel. I was given several different answers when I continued to ask why I was denied parking in an open disabled parking space. I know that I was on private property, but there was no honest reason that I was denied.
During the entire time of my stay, the handicap spaces that were closest to the main door were blocked off and (not only me) no one could use the spaces reserved for disabled persons. I was told to use the garage but when I got into the garage, almost all of the handicap spaces were blocked off.
I was told that they were blocked off because people were parking improperly.
The manager was adamant about me not being able to use the spaces and told me that the driveway was not a parking lot.
This was very concerning because I think she may have thought I was uneducated about the difference between a parking lot, parking spaces, and a driveway. This was dehumanizing and insulting. I'm hoping that she did not treat me this was because of my race. I have pictures of all that I have reported.
This treatment was unkind and unfair."
