What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard evokes strong nostalgia for many, with visitors cherishing past family traditions. While the farm offers popular seasonal attractions like apple picking and the Lumina light show, some long-time patrons feel it has become overly commercialized and expensive compared to its earlier, more intimate charm. Mixed reviews exist regarding food quality and pricing, alongside praise for specific treats and the magical holiday light experience.
"I’ve been visiting Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard since I was a little girl, coming here with my parents every fall. Over the years, I continued the tradition with my daughter when she was young, and even now that she’s grown, graduated, and earned her master’s degree, my husband and I have kept coming back. Harvest Moon was always one of our favorite fall traditions — warm, welcoming, and full of that true family-farm feeling.
I used to love seeing the animals, watching the kids play, and enjoying the food and handmade goods from local vendors. I especially miss the Amish vendors who sold fresh butter, honey, and baked goods — they made the farm feel personal and homey. I also loved purchasing from all the vendors there, but sadly, it’s just not the same anymore. That variety and warmth are what gave Harvest Moon its heart and charm.
The photos I’m sharing are from years ago, back when Harvest Moon truly felt like a farm. I remember going with my uncle, who passed away in 2019 from complications related to 9/11 — he was an MTA first responder. I’ll never forget watching him pick apples straight from the trees, laughing and enjoying the day with family. Those memories are priceless to me. You could buy a large sack for just five dollars and fill it with as many apples as you wanted, paying only five dollars for parking. There were pony rides, hay on the ground, and animals all around — it felt alive and genuine.
Now, in 2025, things are very different. You’re given small plastic bags — $25 for a medium size that barely holds 10–15 apples, and $40 for a large bag. It’s honestly disappointing compared to how it used to be. As you can see from the photos, the difference is huge. What was once an affordable, family-friendly tradition has become overpriced and overly commercialized.
Since COVID, I understand that businesses have had to adapt — I’m a business owner myself — but the farm has lost that warm, community-based atmosphere. The ticket system, higher prices, and loss of local vendors have taken away what made Harvest Moon special.
During my most recent visit, I really didn’t enjoy myself. Our reservation was for 9:00 AM, and we arrived at 9:06, but after being there for a short while, we left by 10:45 AM. My husband and I tried the bison burgers from one of the food stands, but they were cold, flat, and lacked flavor. The fries were fresh and good, but many other customers around us said the same thing — it just wasn’t worth the price.
It truly saddens me to say this because Harvest Moon has been such a big part of my life, but after this visit, I think it may be my last. I’ll always cherish the wonderful memories I made there with my family — especially with my uncle — but I’ll be looking for another orchard that still offers that genuine, heartwarming farm"

"The roasted corn was honestly the best corn I’ve ever had in my life, perfectly sweet and delicious! Their Apple Cider Smash was really good too, and the apple cider donuts were warm and yummy.
Now for the not-so-great parts: the lines were extremely long, easily over an hour wait just to get food or do any activity. Some of the vendors felt sketchy, and one BBQ food stand charged me extra “tax” fees that weren’t listed anywhere — no other vendor did that. The food was also very overpriced for the small portions.
The website is misleading because it says general admission includes hayrides, but when you get there, it’s actually an extra $5. Pretty much every single activity or item costs extra, so your ticket only covers entry and a free scoop of cheesecake.
To top it off, they only accept cash, and the on-site ATM hits you with a $4 fee, which is ridiculous.
Overall, it could’ve been a much better experience with more transparency and organization."

"This place is amazing. The apple cider smash is so delicious. The apple cider donuts are fresh and just the right amount of everything. There was so much to do and very family oriented. Lots to do for kids. Staff was friendly. I’m going back next weekend! Get here early because everyone wants the same good time as I had 😊"

The Evolution of Harvest Moon Farm
In recent years, especially post-COVID, the farm has seen significant changes. While it continues to offer popular seasonal attractions like apple picking and the festive Fall Festival, there's a sentiment among some that it has become more commercialized and expensive. This shift is reflected in pricing for activities and produce, leading to a mixed reception from those who remember its earlier days.
Despite these changes, Harvest Moon continues to draw crowds with its seasonal events. The introduction of large-scale attractions like the Lumina holiday light show demonstrates an effort to evolve and offer new experiences, appealing to a broader audience while still aiming to capture the magic of the seasons.
Navigating the Lumina Holiday Experience
Visitors can expect a visually stunning experience with tunnels of light, sparkling wonders, and photo opportunities throughout the trail. The event runs daily in the evenings and tickets are known to sell out quickly, so booking in advance is essential. While the trail itself is a highlight, be aware that cocktails and fall treats are available for purchase at the start, adding to the overall festive atmosphere.
While the Lumina trail is a significant attraction, some reviews suggest it might be shorter than anticipated, leaving visitors wishing for more. The path is generally passable for strollers, though it can be uneven and gravelly in places. Despite any minor drawbacks, Lumina is widely considered one of the best holiday experiences in the suburban areas.
