What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hikers praise Baxter Creek Trail for its challenging ascent and the rewarding panoramic views from the Mount Sterling fire tower. The old-growth forest and creek crossings add to the natural beauty. However, the trail is demanding, with steep inclines and numerous fallen trees that can make the hike difficult, especially for those with less experience or shorter stature.
"This past week we hiked to the top of Mount Sterling via the Baxter Creek trail. We didn’t pass anyone. I’m pretty sure we were the only people on the trail that day. The weather was perfect. Warm on the way up with some snow on the ground at the top. It took us 4 hours to get to the fire tower and 3 hours to get back. It was challenging but I’m glad we did it. There was 7 or 8 fallen trees on the trail that were difficult for me to climb over. I’m only 5’5 and the trees were at least 3’ in diameter, which usually wouldn’t be an issue. However, with the straight incline for over 6 miles, my legs were feeling it. We climbed the fire tower at the top which had amazing views. If I ever do this again, I want to try the other trail. There are campsites at the top."
