What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The SoHo Grand Hotel is lauded for its unbeatable SoHo location and stylish, well-designed rooms that prioritize comfort. Guests appreciate its dog-friendly policy and the vibrant atmosphere of its Club Room bar. However, some reviews mention inconsistent service, a dark decor that can be impractical, and potential noise issues from the city.
"Soho Grand has officially become my New York home. I have always gravitated toward shiny new hotels with bigger rooms, which usually means sacrificing location, but this time we chose location, location, location and it paid off. You are right in the middle of everything, close to the subway, surrounded by great shops, cafes, and restaurants, and it makes popping back to the room between outings so easy.
The rooms are so thoughtfully designed. Every inch of space is used beautifully, and our stay was incredibly comfortable. The mattress was amazing, the sheets and pillowcases felt luxurious, and the shower setup is great, with both a handheld and a regular shower head. We booked connecting corner deluxe rooms on the 10th floor, a king bed in each, so the kids had their own room. It worked perfectly for our family. I expected the rooms to feel very dark, but we actually had nice light coming in, especially through the bathroom, and the corner room has a surprisingly lovely city view.
Housekeeping did such a good job. Our rooms were kept truly spic and span, and everyone we ran into from the cleaning crew was kind and warm. Front of house service was just as good. A huge shout out to Jonathan Ragin, who helped us with our luggage in the elevator throughout our stay and was consistently friendly and helpful in a way that genuinely made a difference.
Everything about this hotel feels intentional, from the design to the amenities to the vibe in the lobby and bar. After this stay, I am done chasing “bigger but farther away.” Soho Grand hits the mark on comfort and nails the location. This is my new spot in New York."

"Location is outstanding and there are very few hotels in the area, so it really is hard to beat if you wanna be right in the mix of things in Soho. BUT prepare for major concessions. The service is absolutely terrible, food and drink is so so, and the whole hotel is very dark and gloomy with some very odd decor choices that just throw everything off and make the overal theme look a bit cheap. We started off in the basic king (which is surprisingly spacious for a NYC hotel room and had a decent view but no curtains to block out the light 🌅). and then moved up to the penthouse (Lofts) for 2 days (the service was no better in the Penthouse despite that our family was hosting a wedding in the hotel and spending quite a lot of money). If you order anything to the room expect it to take at least 2 hours or expect it will never come at all. The bathrooms, like all of the hotel's main areas are exceptionally dark and it's hard to acclimate to it (forget trying to do your makeup and hair you simply can't see). The second bedroom in the penthouse is very poorly laid out with little space to put your things and no privacy when going to the bathroom because it is detached. The lofts did have blackout shades in the bedrooms which was really nice because the sun and city lights does make the bedroom the brightest place to be.
The views from the lofts are really fabulous. None of us could sit and enjoy them because the sprinklers go off everyday and soak the furniture outside. The rooms are very noisy so bring earplugs, you can hear the traffic noise very clearly all night - even on the top floor. I'm not sure if you can hear the nightclub on the second floor. But I imagine if you are on the 3rd or 4th floor or on a Friday or Saturday you probably can... So bare that in mind if you are looking for rest.
All in all I wouldn't choose to stay in this hotel other than for location. The pricetag doesn't match the quality of the hotel or the service."

"SoHo Grand Hotel is a gem—amazing staff, top-notch restaurants, and right in the heart of great dining and shopping. Rooms and bathrooms are small, but some come with jaw-dropping views of the World Trade Center.
I fell head over heels for the iconic Aviary wallpaper in the bathrooms on my first visit—it was bright, airy, and full of character. Sadly, the remodel replaced it with something dark and depressing, which really dulled the charm.
Still, it’s a solid spot and I’d recommend it… I’m just holding out hope they bring back that wallpaper before I rush back!"

The SoHo Grand Experience: Location, Vibe, and Design
The hotel cultivates a distinct, sophisticated vibe, often described as modern and chic. However, this aesthetic leans towards darker, moodier decor in common areas and bathrooms. While some guests find this design choice to be stylish and atmospheric, others point out that the low lighting can make tasks like applying makeup challenging. This intentional design choice is a key characteristic of the SoHo Grand experience.
Rooms are generally praised for their thoughtful design, maximizing space with comfortable and luxurious amenities. Guests often mention the quality of the mattresses and linens, contributing to a comfortable stay. Despite the hotel's overall dark aesthetic, some rooms manage to feel surprisingly bright, especially corner rooms that offer pleasant city views.
Navigating Service and Amenities
Despite service critiques, the hotel offers several appealing amenities. The Club Room is a notable feature, serving as a stylish bar with a good atmosphere for drinks and socializing, and is open to the public. For those traveling with pets, the hotel is exceptionally dog-friendly, a significant draw for animal lovers.
Room service is available 24/7, which is a convenient perk for guests. However, some reviews mention long wait times or items not arriving at all, echoing the broader concerns about service efficiency. The hotel's commitment to comfort is evident in its well-appointed rooms, though noise from the city can sometimes be an issue, leading some guests to recommend packing earplugs.
